Jadeveon Clowney (DE Carolina Panthers)

I thought this thread was bumped because under new rules his hit against Michigan last year would be ruled a penalty and likely ejection.

Can't wait to watch the reactions from fans next year. Going to be a clown show....

I'm just glad he got that kill shot in before the ban. I honestly cannot remember a hit as sweet as that. I'll never forget Katz clobbering Corby Jones, and as nice as that hit was, the Clowney beheading was superior.

If Clowney's hit on the weenie would draw a flag under the new pussification rules, then I might be watching much less college football. That was a clean football play.

Agreed. Smith is what, 5'8" or something? Clowney is like 6'6"...... It's mighty tough for a guy that height to get low enough - in a fraction of a second - not hit him in the head.

Instead of making all these rules, let's get rid of the slow-motion instant replay. How many times have we seen announcers declare a collision to be a "great hit" in the moment, only to contradict themselves upon viewing the instant replay. If something looks good in real-time, you can't chastise the player when the play is watched in frame-by-frame instant replay.

Clowney didn't even hit Smith in the head--so I don't think he would have been ejected even if the new rules were in place.

Clowney's helmet hit Smith in the chest so hard that his helmet popped off. Check it the 0:52 mark on the following clip...

True indeed. Kudos to you. I wonder why all the talk that this hit would likely result in an ejection this season then?

edit: Never mind. Pereira and Rhoads are dumb.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9503660/jadeveon-clowney-hit-michigan-lead-ejection-2013

Several SEC coaches were riled Tuesday upon hearing comments from ACC coordinator of officials Doug Rhoads that he would have penalized South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney for targeting on his now-famous hit in the Outback Bowl last season.

Mike Pereira, the former NFL vice president of officiating, also agreed there was a "great chance" Clowney's hit would have resulted in an ejection in 2013 under the new targeting rules.

Doesn't every defensive player target the offensive player? Or do they expect them to close their eyes now and play Marco Polo and hope they can tackle?
