Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

Max maybe I am missing something here but, ....
How would these schools overcome sanctions from Tressel's 2011 NCAA imposed 5 year show cause?
So far as I can tell, Ohio State's penalty was a one-year bowl ban, 3 years of probation and forfeiture of 9 scholarships over a 3-year period. I think Auburn or Tennessee would benefit from Tressel coaching them even with these penalties enforced.

With regard to the 5 year show cause, word has it, JT only needs to sit out the first 5 games of the year before he would be allowed to coach. His suspension is in place for 5 years, so, he is actually very much so a possibility for some of these schools.

Hopefully he ends up in Cleveland. :(

TRESSEL'S RETURN: No one expects a terribly negative reaction when Jim Tressel returns to Ohio Stadium on Saturday to be honored along with the 2002 national championship team. It'll be the first time Tressel has been at a Buckeyes game since he sat on information about money and free tattoos for players that led to major violations and heavy NCAA penalties.

The people he recruited, however, can't wait to see him again.

"I would hope there would not be an awkwardness," P Ben Buchanan said. "I was recruited and played for coach Tressel for three years and just love him. I hope that Buckeye fans would welcome coach Tressel back. The things that he did for this university were amazing. I have the utmost of respect for him and, for a lot of these seniors, we feel very honored that the man that recruited us and brought us here and developed us when we were younger players is going to be able to see us off in our final game."

RT Reid Fragel said he also was anxiously awaiting greeting Tressel.

"I am looking forward to seeing coach Tressel," Fragel said. "He's a great person who I admire very much. I don't really think it will be awkward, I think everybody is kind of looking forward to seeing him since we haven't really seen him in a while."

It was Tressel's inaction the NCAA specifically referred to his "unethical conduct" that led directly to the seniors not getting to play in the Big Ten championship game, not going to bowl and not being in the conversation of the national championship game despite being one of only two major unbeatens left in the country.

"I don't think there's any bad blood with him and the guys on this team at this point," Fragel said. "What's done is done, it happened, and I think everybody has kind of moved on. Not really thinking about the ban situation or anything like that, just looking forward to seeing him."

A reporter wondered if he wanted to ask Tressel what he was thinking when he covered up the violations.

"No, I talked to coach Tressel many times after the situation happened," Fragel said. "So I don't have anything to ask him about at all."

Something tells me Tressel's agent will be deluged with calls this winter:

Tennessee
Auburn
Arkansas
Southern Cal

If it weren't for the compliance issues, I'd say he'd be the favorite candidate at USC. But I can't see Haden going that direction, so the other 3 should be placing toll calls to Akron any time now...
I'm confused. Did I miss something? Why is USC looking for a coach? Lane Kiffin is entrenched there for the early future.

Many people here and in Columbus are far bigger men than I. I received the Winners Manual as a gift shortly before the fall out and it, to this day, remains unread and on the shelf.

While I sincerely loved having JT as the coach of our team, I still am equally let down in almost every way by what happened. I hope that one day I can look past what happened and read The Winners Manual for all of the wisdom I'm sure it contains. Until I'm able to reconcile the outward display of the man with his private actions, I fear that will never be possible.

I know that the words I type are likely not popular with many, but I'm also sure that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

It's a sad day that in the face of having our team go undefeated and on the eve of our celebration of the MNC team that I should feel this way. I guess he, perhaps more than any, deserves to be recognized for the team's accomplishments, but I'll be celebrating for the likes of Mike Doss and others. I wish it were not that way.

So because he made one mistake everything good he has done is erased?

I am happy that Tress showed up for this honor, and I am equally glad that he appeared to be received warmly. I know that there are those that are going to crucify this man forever and regard him and everything he stood for as counterfeit. I am not one of those people. I am thankful that he was the head coach here. I appreciate all that he accomplished and the character that he did instill in the team while he was here. Though I may not have made the same decisions, faced with the same situation that he was faced with, I could see myself looking at what he did as an option. I am willing to take his actions as doing what he felt to be the right thing to do by his guys. I can understand that sometimes what you perceive as the right decision may not be the popular decision or even the accepted "correct" decision. At the same time, I understand why he had to be let go. For those of you that can't let it go, I feel sorry for you. Truly, I do. And I don't mean that in a condescending way. It's just that, I still feel so proud to have had this man as the head coach at tOSU, irrespective of the success, but because I still feel that he is a genuinely good man, whose main priority was to develop the kids who he came in to contact with in to men. I hope someday that he is honered in a much greater way.
