JT's Weekly Teleconference Link

haha OSUGrad- Oh I never said you was downing the kid! but rather just pointing out different things that IMO could be graded on, and what I experienced in High School. Now granted it's high school, but I'd have to think they have around the same type of system. In the beginning of my post I said I agreed with what you guys said! I was just giving possible things that you know could factor in to him not wanting to throw the ball instead of taking off.

I don't know why I like this kid so much, and who knows maybe he'll end up stink'n up the joint the rest of the year. However, I feel the need to do this because simply I don't see him starting once Zwick is healthy and Honestly I think he's the better QB. Practice always doesn't mean the person is suppose to be the starter, and sometimes I just feel bad for smith becuase I honestly think he's gotten jobbed so far this year at his fair shot. Now that he's finally starting I feel good for the kid because he's done everything correct thus far, and SOME people don't really like the kid that much. Which is fine considering its their opinions, but sometimes I just feel like we favor one guy just because who he is. Not what he can do.

Smith is progressing nicely. Once he develops a pocket presence and proves to JT that he can handle this offense, he could be a great one.

I'm not completely down on Zwick either though. I don't think we have seen a healthy Zwick much this year. However, I do know the team rallies around the energy Troy brings. That may very well end up as the deciding factor.

If Smith continues to improve, it's not that he may become a great one but will become a great one. God help opposing defenses once he becomes proficient at reading his progressions and develops more accuracy on touch passes.

“Any time you succeed, you feel better about yourself,” he said. “If you keep that in perspective, it can turn into momentum. But if you don’t have that perspective and think you have arrived, it can be trouble and the momentum will be halted."

This, IMO, is the most important part of what Tressel said. In the other thread, this is what I tried unsuccessfully to say.

bukipower, Although I'm sure this wasn't directed at me personally, it was directed at those who have expressed similar opinions as I have. I LIKE TROY SMITH!! I think most everybody you've directed that statement at, LIKES TROY SMITH!! The fact that I'm not willing to go as far as saying he's the answer to our problems, doesn't mean I dislike him. My point is that there are 5 positions, right in front of the QB, that will have IMO, a much bigger impact on the success of this team. I think we obviously have a couple of talented young QB's. But if the other pieces of the puzzle don't fall into place, it won't matter who's back there. And I still don't buy the "PSU's defense is great, therefore Smith is great" arguement, because I believe you can't look at just half the picture. I think PSU's terrible offense had as big an impact on us "looking good" as did us actually "looking good". Don't get me wrong. I think there were certainly things that the offense can build on and I am pleased with the improvement I saw. However, I'm not ready to say we've turned a corner at nearly any position on the offense. Once there's some consistancy, I will be more generous with my praise. Read Tressel's quote again and you will understand what I'm thinking. :)

Personal side note: I personally hope that if and when our offensive linemen improve, that neither Smith or Zwick has to throw the ball much. I want to see 700 yards of rushing a game and great defense. But that's just what I like to watch. Smash mouth, run it down their throats, you can't stop us from going where we want to, have a seat bitch, knock your head off, take no prisoners, who's your daddy, I will eat your children FOOTBALL!!! But that's just me.

Well I'm not directing that to all buckeyes! haha but rather to the people who are clearly on this board saying dumb things and not giving stats to back it up.... I'm sure most people do like Troy Smith, but coming from High School this kid wasn't talked about as a QB even though he was an Elite 11 QB just like Justin was..... Alot of people in the buckeye state obviously like Justin because of his reputation, and of course his state title at orville didn't hurt either. While I'm not saying everyone is like this but you have to admitt my man Smith was obviously behind the 8 ball from the beginning, and I love under dogs. Smith came into this season like everyone knows proclaimed dead even with Zwick, but we definatly knew Zwick was the starter.... we all knew this, and with performing well and us having 2 wins I'm just alot more defensive than I would be of any player. For instance my favorite buckeye on this team Is Mike D'andrea and I stood up for him just as strong when he was critizied....Not try'n to make it sound like you guys aren't great fans, but rather jus go'n with the under dog!

on a side not I also share the thought of us hopefully never having to run the ball and rolling out huge yardage on the ground! while this might not happen I pray it does! but until the next MoC comes along let Smith air it out!

I agree, a lot of people talk about opening up the play book and passing more, but I would think we pass enough. If you run well and often chances are that you will win the game. The pass can stop its self, but only the other team can stop the run. I used to love seeing the bucks line up and shove it down the other teams throat, and I hope we start to see that again soon.
