K Aaron Pettrey (Las Vegas Locos - UFL)

it stinks what happend to him Saturday.... i hope it wasn't "retribution" for the onside kick.

Has anyone heard if there will be any consequences to the NMS team for the chop block on Pettrey's knee?

I would doubt that Aaron will be kicking after this year, on any level. This bad decision on some special teamer's part just robbed him of the last four games of his college career (probably).

Thanks #20 for hanging in there and being a great Buckeye.

Go Bucks --- win it for the kicker!!!!!

Rule is that you aren't allowed to chop or cut block on a return. The guy went right after him to block him then shot straight at his legs... it wasn't necessary. The guy could have just pushed Pettrey. It was a bit dirty.

I have to agree with UpNorth - this was a deliberate cheap shot, and my first thought was that it was because of the onside kick. I'm not saying their coaching staff had anything to do with it, just a heat of the moment type of thing by one of their players.
Definite cheap shot though.

It looked like it was darn near impossible to kick anything of any length accurately with that severe wind blowing to the northwest, though.

Hope Pettery gets back in time at least for scUM.

I'll have to go back and watch it again. But when they showed the replay Saturday during the game, I remember thinking wow, that was cheap. Pettrey was just jogging up the field and they play wasn't even close to him. All of a sudden you see the NMSU guy just fly at his knee. That's how I remember it anyway. I'll go check it out later today.

I was at the game so I didn't see the play. Was it really that bad?
I was at the game, too, and I didn't really see it -- obviously it was not anywhere near the ball. But yesterday's morning dispatch had a photo of the NMS helmet on the side of Pettrey's knee. Looked a lot like donnie Nickey's helmet on Willis McGahee's knee in the NC game.

I have to admit, I haven't seen a rolling video of it... it would be interesting to see if the guy tracked him down and really went after him intentionally, or if is was just a 3d string player getting his little bit of live action and so he threw himself at the first guy he saw.... don't know.

The block was part of the play... #10 NMSU was a few yards ahead of the ballcarrier, looked back to see the returner still running, and headed upfield to block pettrey.

The problem was he took out Pettrey's legs, and his helmet/shoulder went right into his knee.

2nd qtr 4:25 mark, they show a good replay of it.

Pettrey to have surgery, out for season (Blogging the Buckeyes)

its official.
Ohio State kicker Aaron Pettrey tore the medial collateral ligament in his right (kicking) knee last weekend and will miss the rest of the regular season, his mother, Lillian, said today.
Lillian Pettrey said Aaron will have surgery Tuesday. The recovery period is four to six weeks, and she said that Aaron hopes to be back in time to kick in the bowl game.

If you're talking about the play where McGahee was injured, then this statement is wrong on every conceivable level.

NMS player took a cheap shot.

I thought it was a cheap shot but I can understand wanting to try and make something happen for your team. It sounds like he was remorseful so I am willing to cut him some slack. It's not like he tried to deliberately gouge someones eye out or anything...

Aaron Pettrey has had his share of good and bad times at Ohio State. I am thinking of his disappointment in losing out to Pretorius for the starting position. He kept a positive attitude and this year he has had some really impressive kicks go through the upright as the Buckeyes #1 kicker.

Ohio State will miss him in this stretch of tough games.

On the day, he missed two long FGs. No shame in missing anything over the midfield mark, but on other days he might have hit them. So, I am especially sad to see him hurt in such a meaningless game and to go out on a day when he didn't have that "Kodak moment" that he can remember forever.

Pettrey has lots of Kodak moments but I sure hope he can return this year and grab some more. Get well soon.
