Kirk Ferentz (four more B1G COY Awards than Tressel and Meyer combined)

Thanks! That reminds me I'm out of clean rainbow speedos. Got to do a load of laundry tomorrow.

You know what, I actually applaud Iowa for having the brains required to realize they are Iowa.

Meaning they find a coach who can win and they don't get greedy and fire him after a couple of bad years because he can't "take the program to the next level"

Purdue, Minnesota and a couple of others come to mind who probably wish like hell they had let the only coaches who ever won anything for their school stick around longer than they did.

Minnesota firing Mason still makes me shake my head.

Iowa State firing McCarney is another. They actually used to go to bowl games.

Iowa rewards coach Kirk Ferentz with extension through '25 season

The Iowa Hawkeyes have given longtime coach Kirk Ferentz a six-year contract extension and raise through the 2025 season, the school announced Tuesday.

Ferentz, 61, will make $4.5 million per season under the new extension, which the school said runs through Jan. 31, 2026. He had been paid a little more than $4 million annually under his old agreement.

"I've said it many times, I would like Kirk to retire as a Hawkeye, and this contract is a strong statement toward that commitment," Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said in a statement released by the school."

I agree.

We can still bash Iowa for paying him $4 to $4.5 million a year on this and the past contract to do so when he probably would have been sitting pretty at $2-$2.5 million. But hey, if you got B1G money, you might as well spend B1G money.

There's a funny comment in the 11W article:

Saving Cleo the Cat

A touching moment at yesterdays house fire on Duff. The crew of Truck 3 rescued Cleo out of the basement of the house on fire, unresponsive and not breathing. The crew worked tirelessly for over 30 minutes to bring her back to life. The Ames Fire Department keeps special pet revival masks on all apparatus because we know that pets are family too! Cleo was transported to ISU Vet Med via the Ames Police Department, and the owner had encouraging words today about her recovery. Cleo has regained full neurological function, and is still being treated for respiratory issues but is expected to do well. We wish the family the best! This is a great reminder to never go back into a burning building to rescue pets or loved ones, you can be overcome with smoke making it more difficult for us to rescue everyone. Let the professionals make the rescue, we have the training and equipment to be successful!

The cat probably passed out when he heard Kirk Ferentz will coach Iowa through 2025......:slappy:

I agree with your sentiment, but I'll make fun of them for it. He has 1 good year since 2009 (that still included an embarrassing bowl loss) and the last good year before that was 2004 (when they actually beat LSU in a bowl), and they decide to renegotiate/extend now? If they wanted to extend him, they should have waited for those 7-5 years to return and pay him even.
He was already ridiculously overpaid and will be 70 by the time this extension ends. Will he even make it that far? Or they'll just have to overpay him since 2004 with a retirement settlement on top of trying to afford/lure a new coach?

By all means, keep him around. Keep guys like Mason around. But don't pay them $4.5mil/yr 10 years out for a coach that will regularly miss bowl games.

Hey if that is the price they are willing to pay to keep from going back to Purdueville then who are we to judge?

That's the part I don't get though. He's not going anywhere. The NFL isn't coming for Ferentz, like they all believed back in 2002. Had the previous contract not been overpaid, they could've been at $3mil/yr with softer termination/retirement guarantees.
In any case, I want his agent.

Pet owners need to take some responsibility when their pets become that obese. Jesus, poor cat.

Cool on the Ames FD though.
