Lakers 06-07 Season Thread

Pretty good article by Bill Simmons coming up with the trade scenarios for Kobe.

The other interesting part is where he mentions the last 5 trades where a big time superstar was traded. In all cases, the team trading the player never gets enough value.

I'm very surprised you include T-Mac in the 'big-time superstar' group, without mentioning the 'never won a playoff series' factoid.

Rather than start a new thread I figured I would just continue on this one.

Well, tonight is the first night of pre-season, the Lakers are in Hawaii kicking off against the Warriors. At this point, I don't really know what my expectations for the season are. Last year, we started off strong and had a lot of injuries occur, thus making the second part of the season a trial. As far as off season additions, we did very little, in fact I would venture to say we probably did less than any other team. We re-aquired Derrick Fisher, someone who shouldn't have been let leave anyways, and our first round draft pick.

Bryant seems to have shut his mouth, said he "went about that the wrong way" with his whole media explosion, which to me translates to "Jerry Buss told me to go fuck myself, I wasn't leaving, not after I pulled that bullshit and made my trade value next to nothing." I am pretty sure he'll perform on the court, he likes to compete, but I think he'll most likely throw another fit next year and look to take off in 2009. Who knows, maybe this team will surprise me, Kwame Brown will finally live up to the hype, Lamar will put in 20-25 points every night and Fisher will finally add the second shooter we need.

However, it's hard to get my hopes up, when Fisher was here he would miss simple shots, have silly turn overs but would be there in the clutch when we needed him. Not nearly as clutch as Horry, but he still had a lot to do with the Lakers three-pete.

As you can see, it's hard to be optimistic, but I will still support my team. I felt at the end of the season some major changes needed to be made, but the staff sees Bynum as the future center of the team and he was really the only thing we had to offer for any real trade. So players they could have maybe made a play for were passed and now we basically have the same team as last year.

Anyways, that's my thoughts, odds are I will be continuing comments throughout the season about this team, perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised, who knows.
