Just finished watching Gladiator for the first time, and all I can say is wow! Almost flawless from beginning to end, and I love the soundtrack. Now I know where the Pirates of the Caribbean theme really came from.

Yes, I was very entertained.

Rise of the planet of the apes - great special effects, decent start to the movie then it slid into daytime fx channel forgettable content. I find James Franco very likeable but boy were Oz and this just terrible performances. I don't feel particularly compelled to watch his uncomfortable but highly praised survival movie.

The 5 Year Engagement - genuinely funny romantic drama about the reality of marriage and the perspective needed. Much like the last movie I watched in this genre (the switch), I couldn't tell if the moral of the story was intentional, accidental or subtle given the culture it was speaking to, but the lesson was a strong one.

Marriage and love isn't about what you can get or the pleasure you can extract, no matter how much society (and the little voice on your one shoulder) screams otherwise (and boy do we like that idea). That falls flat every time, though not always in such spectacular fashion as to be imprisoned in Ann Arbor. True love is found (and obtained) by serving the other person especially when the person and circumstances doesn't inspire it.

"Today's more of a bunny day" is a permanent addition to my favorite lines in film.

Total Recall - the 33% (or so) rating on rotten tomatoes was generous. weak plot, acting as you would expect but equally weak action and special effects. I have been making my way through the only mildly appealing movies on Starz, hbo , etc and this was a poor decision even for free.

How in the world have you made it this long without watching one of the greatest movies of all time?!

I'm a lifelong Russel Crowe fan because of that movie, and as much as you hate his character Joaquin Phoenix is great in it as well.

Ender's Game - very good movie, I thought it did the "futuristic" aspect far better than Hunger Games. Some of the acting was a bit off but with much of the cast supported by young actors that is to be expected. Overall, I'd give it a solid 7.5/10.

Bleak and depressing. A perfect Saturday morning movie for me.

Solid suspense movie that was very well done, although maybe not quite as good as the hype. I would have been fine with a bit less of the gore. Ryan Gosling is almost always good.

Apparently, we did not get quite enough gore on Friday, though, because we followed it with

Much better than I expected. Tim Burton was almost understated in his decisions, which absolutely shocked me. I really appreciated the design of the sets -- very theatrically presented while still working for film. I wouldn't have minded a better voice than Johnny Depp, but the character was right up his alley. Ditto for Helena Bonham-Carter.

And still one of my favorites. Knowing what it builds to makes the entire film so much better. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

It was so bad that it was actually kind of good. Anyway it was worth the $1.25 that I paid the "cheap cinema" to see it. The movie did have several big name stars; i.e. Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, and more, (and I have no idea how they got them to do (or why) they did this movie). Lot's of scantily clad women, but (sadly, unlike in the 1st Machete movie) none were topless in this one. It ends with a cliffhanger, supposedly there will be a third one in the series: Machete Kills Again In Space.
