Your first lines are not lost on me. Beyond the jab a WB, the social, media and political commentary (along with some nods to the human psyche) were all very spot on.

What saved the back half of the original 3 was, as you put, the fight choreography. Resurrections was a complete letdown in that regard. The problem is I can't tell if it's intentionally bad or was production just rushed after everyone returned to set when the CoVid surge slowed?

Either way, what began as a brilliant middle finger to sequels, reboots, big time studios and originality ended up fizzing out in the 2nd half that, IMHO, just gave way to some pretty mediocre material. Especially that ending, and don't get me started on a cover of Wake Up. That ending scene from The Matrix was what first introduced me to RATM.

In the end, I feel the movie fell flat because I think it's possible to have a self-aware film, but to also realize that like what was said in the movie - "The story doesn't really end". Something wholly original could have come out of that script and transformed into it's own film with just the first 45 minutes of content. The ground work is there for new material, new characters, new dialogue and new direction just with a classic foe - The Matrix. That in and of itself can be drawn as a parallel to how the world has become since 1999.

Lots of time to watch films with hiding out in one bedroom to recover from very mild covid:

Shang Chi, solid addition to the universe and a seemingly authentic eastern feel throughout. I also felt like this movie did a nice job isolating the action in a hectic battle. This was the antithesis of the age of Ultron action overload (I still don't care for those battles).

opened the movie with a blatant jab at Kim's convenience (which ended messily), yelling at a person that he's not Korean. That was interesting.

Encanto - still felt a little too white/americanized, but overall a good expansion culturally and a fun ride for kids that adults can enjoy too. Overall a richer film than Soul (which I enjoyed, but didn't get hit very hard by that one like many claimed they did).

As for the music, I feel like I'm going to have a very long term love hate relationship with Lin Manuel. I know each composer has their style, but the extremely Hamilton esque music got in the way of a decent soundtrack. His delivery style of his personally rapping is so dominant even with others doing the singing.

Also it was shocking trying to wrap your brain around the little girl being voiced by the Brooklyn 99 actress that played Rosa Perez. If you imagined the times Rosa turned it up to 11 to imitate a girly girl, you could almost get there. Just such a massive role reversal. Especially given how dull her b99 delivery is all of the time. I loved the voice acting, just brain breaking.

Was rewatching LoTR trilogy as I fell asleep. Still unparalleled.

Next up, revisiting the matrix sequels before diving into Resurrections.

So I went looking for some online discussions about matrix 2+3, and came across this solid explanation of the bugs and the explanation of the architect

Click through for a pretty robust explanation of the system (the preview is just the rant of the OP)
