LB Chris Spielman (2x All-American, 4x Pro Bowl, 3x All-Pro, CFB HOF)

For those near Canton, Chris is speaking and doing a book signing tonight.

“Kicking Off With Chris Spielman” will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a book signing from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., at the auditorium in Malone University’s Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts at 2600 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton. Malone’s publicity material for the event calls Spielman’s story “a personal account of the couple’s courageous journey as they navigated Stefanie’s battle with breast cancer.” The public event, at which Spielman will speak about the 11-year family struggle that preceded his wife’s death in 2009, is free.

About books: Spielman spreads message of hope during program
By Gary Brown
CantonRep.com staff writer
Posted Oct 17, 2012

?When I found out that One Book, One Community chose our book, I was humbled and pleased because this is where we?re from,? said high school, college and professional football star Chris Spielman.

He is the author, along with Bruce Hooley, of the book ?That?s Why I?m Here: The Chris and Stefanie Spielman Story.?

Spielman returned home to Stark County earlier this month to speak at ?Kicking Off With Chris Spielman,? the first special event for this year?s One Book, One Community reading program, sponsored by Canton Mayor?s Literacy Commission.

He brought a message of hope to the more than 500 in the auditorium of Malone University?s Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts. The evidence of hope, he said, is found in the growth of his faith in God and the faith of his wife, Stefanie, who died from breast cancer in 2009.

?There is always hope,? said Spielman. ?Hope that is not a wish, like the world defines it. Hope that is a promise that there will be no more pain, no more fear, and no more tears.

?I once asked Stef if she was afraid, and she asked, ?Why would I be afraid of heaven?? ?

Spielman told those in the audience who were facing a diagnosis of cancer to find courage in faith.

?Stand firm in your faith. Be men and women of faith. Do everything with love. If you do, I promise you you?ll be brave.

Chris Spielman is an absolute "gem." We've had the honor to not only have him as a player here at TOSU, but as a great spokesman for the Univeristy as well as for things that REALLY matter in life.

If you are nothing but a football fan, than you should be saddend by the fact that if Chris was 1/1000th the football player that he is a person he would have been the greatest football player that ever stepped on the field, EVER!

But, if you're a human being with real feelings, you'll look at this guy forever as a guy who played the game of football with tenacity and excellence yet plays the game of LIFE with a much higher degree of intensity and excellence.

Chris will always have a "Nation" of Buckeye fans in his corner that will forever hold him and Stephanie in their hearts.

Peace on earth to Chris, and in Heaven to Stephanie.

Agreed with brodybuck, this post deserves a GPA. Well said and was exactly what I was wanting to write here. As Woody said "You Win With People" and Chris is one of the best there is. Looking forward to watching this episode. :oh:
