LB Etienne Sabino (official thread)

Although he hasn't scheduled any official visits yet, Sabino says he'll definitely visit USC in the fall. "I'm planning to make that my first visit," he said. "Pete Carroll is great to talk to and I like the linebacker coach Ken Norton a lot too. He knows the game and said they are graduating all three linebackers this year and that I'd have an opportunity to play.

Hmmm...Projected starters are Cushing (jr.), Maualuga (jr.), and Rivers (sr.). Sounds like a couple guys might be leaving early.

An update on the top uncommitted prospects in the Southeast, with Sabino being one. For those thinking he doesn't leave the South, Notre Dame apparently is the team to beat according to J.C. Shurburtt, with Miami being the darkhorse.

Maybe there is still room for hope?!

Is there not enough mutual interest yet to move this back to the main forum? From Brewster talking about contacting him (in a CPD article I believe) and now a confirmed visit, I would think so, unless there are things goingon behind the scenes tha make you think these visits are just window dressing.

I've been monitoring Sabino for quite some time now, and I gotta say this visit seems more or less like a make or break type of visit for OSU. I think producing the likes of Bobby Carpenter and A.J. Hawk that have kept OSU in the back of his mind for this one, but other than that I can't claim to remember any comments about OSU that stood out to me.

The visit would probably need to knock his socks off for him to pick up a lot more interest. I can honestly say that I felt that GT, ND, and UNC had better chances at him than OSU before the visits. We'll see if that changes by week's end - and I didn't include Miami due to the # of backers they've already got (Buchanon, Futch, Robinson, McCray - not to mention being legitimate sweepstakes contenders for Arthur Brown, along with USC and OU).

Leaving the south isn't the question here - he grew up in New York if what I remember reading is correct. I think academic prestige will be a big to do for him - its rare that a 4 star linebacker initially gets excited about an offer from Duke.

That's actually about as much as you could have asked out of this visit, considering we came in probably around fourth or fifth on his list. Get him interested, sell him on our linebacker tradition, do our best to close the deal.

It's not like anyone is/was expecting much out of this visit.
