LB Etienne Sabino (official thread)

I agree. He looked like he was taking terrible angles and didn't look as quick as we've been expecting.

Have to say, I wish things had worked out a lot differently for him. He was a 5 star recruit coming out of high school, and he traveled 1500 miles from home to play here. From what I've seen, Etienne just doesn't seem to have the natural instinct that I think of as, " a nose for the ball".

reminds me of Jerry Westbrook/Buckeye another star from florida in the early 90's. One of the fastest guys on the team and could have played RB or LB but, just didn't pan out being that superstar every one thought.

That might be true, my football intelligence isn't quite up there with a number of other posters, however I will say once Sabino does arrive the ballcarrier realizes it.

He has only had 6 starts....I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt until after the Wisky game.

Thats part of the problem, he's only had 6 starts. Thats showing he hasnt proved it to the coaches in practice earlier in his career. I really think putting Sabino at LEO would be a great move. Then we can put Shazier and WILL, and slide Sweat over to MIKE.

Disagree. Who should he have started over since he's been on campus? Out of the starting linebackers who have been here since he arrived, there's more of them in the NFL than those who aren't.

Maybe he could've beat out Sweat last year. Some people thought he was going to start his sophmore year at MIKE. If he was as good as we had all hoped/thought he would have played alot more. And he actually doesnt start, him and storm kinda rotate series'.

I totally agree he's a monster when arrives, the problem is he seems to run himself out of plays too often. When Nebraska scored 2 play after Miller was stripped, Sabino bit on a fake, and Martinez ran right through where Sabino should have been. I know I'm comparing a player with 6 starts to some of the greats, but that play would have gained nothing if Hawk, Rolle, or Lil animal was playing linebacker. I agree with the move to Leo idea, send him from point A to point B to kill somebody.

I seem to remember bino being held by the face mask on that play too. I suggest you go back and watch it again.

By far the best game of his career. The light could have come on for him tonight as well. I know it's difficult to remain patient when our Bucks were struggling, but we also have to remember he's only started 8 games now. I think ES is going to be fine...and will be a beast by this time next year
