I love that he stuck around for this season..I love it even more that all of those new recruits are going to spend a season with the beast. He'll make sure they will all know how it's done at :osu:.

I heard some of the interview with big Mike Adams on the sirius nfl network yesterday by Tim Ryan and Pat Kerwin. The boys asked Mike about who the toughest player he had gone up against. Mike mentioned going up against Watt from Wisky, Kerrigan from Purdue, and Claiborne from Iowa during his Junior year. Mike said he felt he played pretty well against all of them. Mike made a point of saying that by far the toughest player he has ever faced was fellow Buckeye johnny Simon. Tim and Pat didn't know what to say to that. I think this time next year going into the 2013 draft they will more than know about John Simon.

. And regarding your original point, I am highly surprised that Simon isn't a projected first rounder on that list as NFL Draft Central places him as the #2 DE of his class

People are probably afraid of a Buckeye d-lineman because of Gholston but the situations are not interchangeable. John Simon is a beast. No doubt about it. On the fast track to be one of my top-5 favorite Buckeyes ever. Love the way he plays.

I hope NFL managers and teams are qualified enough to recognize this, and also to recognize that Simon is the exact opposite - Urban handpicked him as a team captain and leader, he is extremely mentally tough, and on top of that he is possibly the strongest player in cfb. On the surface Gholston and Simon are similar, but dig a little deeper and it is clear who is the superior prospect.
Anyways, if he does slip to the 2nd round and the Pats don't select him I will personally call Belichik and let him know he is a massive idiot

Simon has a serious mean streak in him..he wants to dish out punishment every snap. I just don't think Gholston ever had that same instinct.

He's just getting overlooked. Those year-early mock drafts are always (understandably) terrible and pretty pointless. Half of those guys won't even be picked in the 1st round next april.
I really don't know where Simon will get drafted. He's going to do pretty well at the combine (4.75-4.80 forty, 40-ish reps on bench, interview well) but he's not a LEO stand-up rusher at the next level, he's a strong-side defensive end, and that's why I really hope Nathan Williams is back at 100% and at the LEO in the fall so that Simon can go back to SSDE which is more of his natural position. He doesn't have that protypical build for an NFL DE (I think he'll measure in at around 6-1 1/2, 270), but there's no denying his on field dominance.
It'll be interesting, but I think he'll eventually find himself in the 1st round, even if he doesn't have that prototypical build. Just too good of a player and his intangibles are off the charts.
