Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

The team's lack of ability to improve its supporting cast around James is due in part to his posturing. He has used free agency to hold the team hostage to the extent that whenever they have expiring contracts they can never just let the guys walk and get some payflex. Instead they're forced to be like the kid at Chuck E. Cheese with a fistfull of tickets - they figure out how much they have and cash them in immediately for whatever piece of junk it will get them at the time.

Blaming the front office is ignorant. What else was Ferry supposed to do? He's practically had a gun to his head for the last three years.

Said he was hurting this team with the free agency talk months ago. Ferry did what he could with the sense of urgency Lebron created.

I have tried to buy into the concept that A) He wants to win; and B) He knows his best chance is in Cleveland.

But would this team have/had a better chance to win the title this year if he wasn't continuing to fuel the speculation? Would we have had a better chance with free agents? And does it help to hold your franchise and your fans hostage, not knowing if you'll be here for the long run?

What he is doing is not consistent with wanting to be here and wanting to win. It is entirely consistent with what someone would do if they had one foot out the door already.

I know I get mocked for it. I guess I don't care because I'm pretty secure with my status as a real Cavs fan, not just some Johnny ComeLately. I was here before Lebron. I will be here after. And I really do believe this franchise is bigger than Lebron. His antics, financially motivated or not, [censored] me off.

Posted pretty much the same thing in the cav's season forum.. I'll say this (for which i'll get roasted i know but don't care)... during the 06 playoff's i told my buddy we should trade him and get as much as we can for him... for me, he has never had IT, i don't know what it is, i'm just an armchair baller but I don't think he has what it takes to impose his will on himself much less his team or the other. He just wants the money and fame... Lebron is a slightly upgraded version of McGrady or Nowitzki..

Can we sign and trade him now?

I suggested a straight-up trade for Dwight Howard two years ago and I got crucified for it. The Magic would have taken that deal then.

Do you think the Cavs would have been better off with Howard rather than Lebron the past 2 years? Howard is a force, but he scores half what Lebron does and spends much more time on the bench in foul trouble. Those points would have to come from somewhere.

If the goal is winning a championship, I don't think that trade is that great of an idea. The Magic are good because of Howard AND the very good cast of players he has around him in Orlando. Put Howard on the Cavs right now in place of Lebron, and that team's not going anywhere in the playoffs.

Well consider the fact that we'd have him locked up long term, would have been able to let some of our expiring contracts walk and probably sign better free agents... I'd say theres a fair chance we'd be in atleast as good of shape.

The goddamn Jiri Welsch trade is also to blame. I've felt that the Cavs have always suffered from a lack of ability to get a second impact player in the draft to pair with LeBron. The Cavs lost valuable high picks in that awful trade, and by the time they were back in the first round again LeBron had made the team good enough on his own that they were out of the lottery and picking late in the first round.

We'd have an entirely different team makeup. Could I say with confidence that we'd be better off? No. But we still aren't winning a title this year AND we are losing Lebron in the offseason. So it would have been worth the risk.

The only reason you could argue trading Lebron heads up for anyone else in the league is because solid centers are so much more rare than small forwards. If that wasn't the case, it's a no brainer you would draft Lebron #1, starting from scratch. I still think it's a no brainer but I could buy into the center argument.

I don't know, the whole thing is upsetting as someone who lives in the area now. I am pretty much positive LeBron is gone now, though I'm not exactly sure where. I won't say he quit last night, but the team as a whole certainly did (Shaq aside, actually). I suppose there could be a miracle comeback in the series, but from the looks of it last night, I imagine LJ, Shaq, and the entire coaching staff will be gone next year...at least. This team is much like the Indians of the mid-late 90's...they put together a 4-5 year run, but couldn't get it done, and now it appears they are starting to regress, which I think is what will seal the fate of LJ leaving. If they lost in 7 to the Lakers, there would be more of a reason for him to stay to get over the hump. If he's going to play where he's an attraction and the team isn't going to win championships, he can do that in NY and get a lot more money overall.
