Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

The NBA has turned into a joke, and every day it gets more and more like the WWF. This league isn't about team pride, city pride, competition, etc. anymore like it was in the 80s. It's about a bunch of lazy rich guys who'd rather sit back and be soft and collect their cash. IMO, Stern has turned what used to be a good product into a laughing stock.

Very well said. The Atlanta Thrashers have "0" history or tradition - but for fucks sake, at least they'll stand up for each other when another team gets chippy or takes a run at the goalie.

Damn - Hockey players play with some type of pride and that is to be respected.

so i take it everyone missed someone nearly connecting with a cup of beer to the back of lebron while he was sitting on the bench in the 4th quarter? he obviously felt it because he immediately sat up in his seat and glanced back...it had to of been jake delhomme throwing it...hopefully it makes it on youtube

so apparently it wasnt a beer it was a rolled up towel someone threw at lebron

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/mi...4/a-rough-night-turns-smooth-for-lebron-james

Standing five rows directly behind the Heat's bench, the man in the blue jeans, white T-shirt and filthy mouth launched an object that was headed directly toward the back of James' head as the superstar sat unaware watching his new team finish off his former squad.

This time, it turned out to be knotted rally towel, which fell about two feet short of striking James before it was swatted down by a Heat security officer. Maybe that fan -- who was quickly whisked out of the arena with a taser aimed at his back by police -- wasn't aiming at James after all.

Perhaps he was attempting to do everyone in the building a favor. Because someone probably should have thrown in the towel for the Cavaliers way before things got as ugly as they did in the fourth quarter of Miami's 118-90 victory that was part coming-out party, part confirmation hearing for James.
To James' credit, he largely ignored the chaos that started when someone threw a battery from the stands that landed right in front of the Heat's bench. That drew a warning from the public address announcer.

The battery was thrown right around the time when a man apparently tried to rush the court from one of the tunnels leading to it but was picked off by a security officer, which led to a scuffle. As the Heat's lead grew, so did the craziness in the stands. One fan wearing a Heat jersey was showered with cups of beer in the upper deck. He didn't duck. Instead, he basked in the beer until he was escorted out.

Then came towel man. Maverick Carter, James' business manager, left his courtside seat moments later and had to be escorted through the crowd by three bodyguards. James, meanwhile, was oblivious to his surroundings. Or at least he did a remarkable acting job.

i saw that happening. what the article fails to mention was that the heat fan was in the first row and the beer went over the edge and landed on the poor people below. that's why you don't throw crap.

It was only a matter of time before the 1st quarter crowd that was really intense and booed LJ and cheered the Cavs got drunk and bored from the ass kicking and started trying to charge the court and throw stuff. I'm surprised they didn't ban alcohol for one game. I thought the crowd was great in the first quarter.

I thought you might all get a kick out of my response to some fool I came across on CBS sportslines forum.

Him:
It?s Called Mental Health...

To Cleveland: Wahhhhh GET OVER IT!
Yes, I also get depressed when my team looses, or angry when I perceive a lack of effort and I can identify with the anger and betrayal that Cleveland fans feel. The Miami Dolphins would have replaced Pittsburg as the team of the 70s had Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick, and Paul Warfield (the collective equivalent to LeBron in terms of what they meant to their team) not left for bigger paydays to the World Football League. However, I mourn then I remind myself that it?s just a game and move on with the really important things in my life such as taking care of my family and enjoying my friends (the ones I REALLY know, not the ones on the court).

Folks, that?s called mental health... GET SOME!

My response:

It's painfully obvious that a lot of you just don't get it. I'm a Cleveland sports fan, always have been. I'm not one of the bitter one though. Sports is not life and death to me it's just entertainment. Cleveland fans however have every right to never let go of this grudge. #6 had an unbelievable opportunity. He grew up in northeast Ohio, was considered the greatest phenom ever, was fairytaled into a opportunity not only to be the greatest Cleveland sports hero of all time but to be the most beloved basketball player ever, nothing could deminish his rep. That's obvious by the stories that have surfaced of his entitlement issues since "The Decision" and how not a peep of that was ever uttered before. To throw away an opportunity like that away is, to a man, the stupidist fuc**** thing I've ever "witness"ed. Even if he never won a championship in Cleveland, if he would have stayed he would have been beloved forever for supporting his community and staying true to his roots.

In the last year we seen the self inflicted destruction of the 2 cleanest athletes in sports in Tiger and Lebron. They just can't stay out of their own way.

No one is abandoning their job and family to fling hatred at Lebron James. Sports has villians and heros my friend, it's like reading a novel or watching or movie. It's a story line that people follow. Whether your cheering or booing everyone goes to work the next day and kisses their wife when they come home from the game. No one is going home and beating their wife because #6 dropped 38 points on the Cavs. Get real. The anger and hatred comes from idiots throwing away golden opportunities to galvanize themselves in the people's hearts and minds. Oh, and your comparison makes no sense...he would have made millions more not quiting on his hometown. The NBA collective bargaining agreement is set up so big markets can't steal top talent from lower profile cities by allowing them to offer more money and longer deals. Not to mention the endorsement dollars he threw in the trash by making an ass of himself on national television. Think before you start criticizing people for following the storyline of sports. Your too busy trying to be smarter then everyone else to realize your just like Lebron...too inside your own head to perceive reality.

Well...after Lebron said, "...to continue the greatness for myself...", and Craig Sager tried to see if he could get Lebron to humble himself, he declined and said it was all about this kids...yet again. Reggie Miller summed it up perfectly by saying he just dug himself an even bigger hole.

Of the seven deadly sins, how many is this clown the poster child for?

One of the talking heads in Atlanta morning sports talk radio made mention of a unique fact. Has that money actually made its way to the Boys and Girls club yet?

It was reported that his private fundraising and event donations were supposed to donate north of Two Million - but has that donation come through yet?

Merits a quick check. If not - then LBJ deserves MOUNTAINS of [censored].

I'm curious too...I would hope he did. The guy could just whip out his check book or liquidate a few stocks and have it done in a day if he really wanted to.

Are you saying that this happened (the charge the court and throw stuff)? Because I watched the whole game and didn't see anything. Link?

read through the thread. Post #4372 has an article and a link noting the thrown battery and beer throwing at a Heat fan. Not to mention a knotted up towel thrown near the end of the game (origianally thought to be a bottle).

That SI article is so true. James left a town that would love him and look over every single fault as long as he got them to the playoffs and close to the Finals, because that's the farthest we've gone in sports in a while. Now he's in a town where the fans don't really care, its just something to watch for the last 2 minutes of a game to see what the final score is. If you win a championship...no one cares. If you fail miserably...no one cares. The only attention he'll get down there is because of his money and celebrity status, not for being a "great" player. The rest of the sports world wants him to fail, when just 9 months ago, they wanted him to win it all.

Think the Cavs lost a few fans last night.

The players are all pieces of ****.

Lebron embarassed the organization and entire city for his own ego.

And our coach has to ******* TELL our players to stop interacting with him so much.

None of them are worth a ****. He is the villian. He is the bad guy.

And our players treat him like he never left. Old school NBA is dead, the only thing players care about anymore is money and the relationships they have with other players.
It's not just the Cavs, it's the entire nba. There's no pride anymore, everybody wants to be buddies. The league has been in serious decline since the 2003 draft class was injected in like a poison. It's a fraud. It's not a sport anymore, it's entertainment (to some) on the same level as the WWF. I hope there's a lockout next year and the league suffers like mlb did in the 90's as a result. It needs an enema.
