Leinart And Other Thoughts

My Heisman list:

1. Reggie Bush
2. Drew Stanton
3/4. Vince Young/Matt Leinart

Call me a homer, but I think Stanton is hands down the best college quarterback I've ever seen. Guts, accuracy, speed, smarts, he's got it all. It's just too bad he's on the least clutch team in college football.

Well, after his performance and Reggie Bushs' performance, I think Archies record is safe for another year at least.
I strongly disagree; I think Griffin's record is in a lot of danger. The media is going to see the wins, the numbers (300 yards passing against ND), and most importantly Leinart's gutty efforts to score on the last two plays. Perception is more important than his actual performance. If it wasn't for Bush, I think Leinart would be the runaway favorite right now.

If LLoyd Carr had any brains (i know), he'd make Mario Manningham the center of his offense.
Manningham doesn't know the offense very well yet. He's a freshman, and he's pretty only made plays on rather simple routes such as posts, flys, and quick passes. For example, we can't trust him to run hot routes like we can with Avant yet. I don't think there's any doubt he's our designated deep threat now or that we'll be making an effort to get him the ball more, but you can't just drop everything to make a player the center of the offense.

anyone conscerned with whether or not hawk has a future at the next level needs to sit down and watch the texas game again. any team that has to face/may face a vy type qb on a consistant basis will without question look at hawk very seriously. im not sure where this whole "aj isn't flashy" stuff comes from. if the texas game wasn't enough "flash" for you, go watch the iowa game. if you don't see enough flash from hawk in those 2 games you know nothing about playing lb.

Your a homer(so am I though)

People love to rag on the best. Look at what DJ had to listen too. All he is doing in KC is leading the team in tackles and FF and will be considered for defensive rookie of the year

What made Wilhelm a solid player at the college level was his intensity and vision. Hawk has both, plus real speed and plain ol' instincts which set him apart from Matt. As said by several other before, A.J. just knows how to play linebacker. I thought Teddy Bruschi was over-rated in college, but he sure proved me wrong. Hawk will do the same to other naysayers in the pros.
whilhelm didnt play with his hands well. he had trouble shedding blocks.

HOMER. HE IS A GOOD ONE THOUGH.

I'M NOT SEEING THAT. THAT WAS THE TEST GAME FOR BOTH PLAYERS AND BUSH WON THAT BATTLE. AS LONG AS BUSH DOESN'T DO SOMETHING STUPID, HE'LL WIN. LEINART (I THINK) IS UNDER A MICROSCOPE BECAUSE HE ALREADY WON.

YOUR IDIOTIC COACH HAS ONLY GIVEN HIM 16 RECEPTIONS THIS YEAR! HE'S PROVEN HE DESERVES MORE BALLS (JUST LIKE LLOYD). HE'S HAD BIG CATCHES IN BIG GAMES. I THINK HE KNOWS THE OFFENSE GOOD ENOUGH TO GET MORE THAN 2 A GAME.

Again, I'm stupid with the caps and italics.

What's with the caps and the font? It just makes things harder to read.

How do you know he knows the offense well? That's the coaches' job. You also didn't address anything I mentioned in my post. If he doesn't know the routes, if he doesn't know when to run a hot route, etc., then he won't start over Avant (3 year starter, captain, having a rather good year) or Breaston(3 year starter, similarly explosive, finally starting to come alive). I've noticed 2 situations where the coaches were yelling at him to get into position as the play was about to start, saving an illegal formation penalty.

He's getting simple plays that do a great job of exposing his talent, such as quick passes at the line of scrimmage and deep bombs against man coverage, and he is getting more of them.

We only threw, if I recall correctly, 2 deep bombs against PSU. Manningham got one. Now, if your critique is that we should throw more bombs to Manningham, I'll agree. Just like with Edwards, I think we should be throwing 2-3 deep passes to him a game.

I think you're really overblowing this as a mistake by Carr and our coaching staff. There's much better places you can critique them this year, such as the blitz on the long run by Minnesota or the run-run-run-punt play calls we had on our next to last drive against PSU.

DJ is having a great year - but if Odell Thurman keeps playing strong and improving he could make that vote on defensive rookie veeery interesting.

As for Leinart - -- if he doesn't make it in the Pros he can always fall back on his college education

Read my last sentence. It was stupidity.:)

1) Bush
2) Leinart
3) Young

No, not start over Avant. Just throw him the ball more. At this point, he's show he can be more than 16 catches in 7 games. Save the hot routes for Avant.

No, I just like to rag on Lloyd.

How is someone a scUM St and scUM fan ?

I'm editing my Heisman picks:

1. Bush
2. VY
3. A.J.
4. Stanton
5. Maroney

Yep Leinart's gone. I saw both him and Stanton play on Saturday and I'm convinced Stanton's easily the better QB. Stanton is very mobile and can put up huge numbers even when our D is all over him like it was on Saturday. You put Leinart under that kind of pressure (as ND somewhat did, but Stanton was under more), and you see what you get -- a completion percentage just over 50% along with 0 TD and 2 picks.

College MVP so far:

1. Dumervill (sp?)(louisville) - his stats are just freakish, plain and simple. perhaps legendary if this pace keeps up.

2. Reggie Bush (USC) - he's the man, owns his team and the rest of their shitty ass schedule.

3. VY - having a tremendous year, what a talent. actually becoming a passer too.

4. Hawk - Exactly

5. Maroney - best pure running back in fotball

6. Sutton - what he's doing for n-western is remarkable as a frosh.

7. Stanton - Best QB in the country

Notable off the list: Leinart - having a solid year, but i think with his team and offense, Booty, Stanton, Zwick, SMith could excel.

NOW PREDICTED HEISMAN:

1. Bush
2. V Young
3. Leinert
4. Maroney
5. Drew (UCLA)

1- Young
2 - Bush
3 - Stanton
4 - Leinart

With the top 3 well distant from number 4, and 1 and 2 swappable in any given week. If Bush had his performance on a down week for VY then he'd get my 1st place vote. As it is I can't take Young of the top when he almost single-handledly chokes off the Buffs.
