I don't understand this "can Meyer sneak up on the big boys, and he is a mid major coach" BS.

Our head coach came from D1AA. I don't think he had any history of sneaking up on the "big boys" either. The hipocracy kills me.

Urban Meyer has been a head coach at 2 unknown schools, and has brought them both up into the upper echelon of college football without the facilities, money, or tradition of a major school. I think that looks pretty good.

Imagine what he can do with a good recruiting base, a top notch school, and top notch facilities.
I agree, hopefully when he gets his chance it is out of the big ten, and most certainly not scUM

Well, with all the press Columbus got internationally during the final days of the election and while the votes were being counted, I would think that the fans of both teams sitting in those stands would be very happy knowing that all bags had been checked for both teams, which is what OSU said happened.

It doesn't look any different to me that what I went through at Port Columbus. It is sad that UM felt this was a ploy to unsettle them. I suppose I'm a bit slow but I don't really understand the problem?

This makes it even better

In case anyone cares, since I don't see it mentioned:

Mr Bucknuts:
<!--StartFragment -->Today on 1460, we came off looking pretty bad because the show host read a letter from someone saying that a rumor about Lloyd Carr had been posted on Bucknuts.com, to which the host answered something like "a lot of stuff on there is untrue" and that instead of jumping to report something, they follow up on it and call people to see if it is true. Of course, they said they called up to Michigan and were told there was no truth to it.

This staff (despite what a few individuals may think) believes in reporting truthful stories and we want to stay away from damaging rumors. It's the policy of this board to not post something without a source. This is what happened with this Lloyd Carr stuff, and we came off looking bad to anyone who may have been listening to that this afternoon.

Occasionally, we may slip and do something that damages ourselves, but at the same time, we can't have someone coming on here doing this stuff.

I respect the opinion of you fellas who think that I am wrong with my comments. I firmly believe that Meyer will not be the groundbreaking coach that some portray him as if he goes to a major school. I understand that Utah is not exactly a "major" school, but I think that Meyer probably looked at the talent base of the team before he made the jump out there. He still has not proved to me that he can recruit, what, he spent 2 years at BG, and now 2 years at Utah? He hasn't had time to lock down a solid base of talent. Keep in mind, I'm not saying that he cannot do this, but he hasn't proved that to me yet.

If he comes to the Big Ten, he will need to have a team that plays some defense. Lets look at the total points scored by each opponent.

Thu 09/02/2004 Texas A&M W, 41-21

Sat 09/11/2004 Arizona W 23-6

Sat 09/18/2004 Utah State W 48-6

Sat 09/25/2004 Air Force *W 49-35

Fri 10/01/2004 New Mexico W 28-7

Sat 10/16/2004 North Carolina W46-16

Sat 10/23/2004 UNLV *W 63-28

Sat 10/30/2004 San Diego St * 51-28

Sat 11/06/2004 Colorado St * W 63-31

Sat 11/13/2004 Wyoming * W 45-28

Sat 11/20/2004 BYU W, 52-21

Their defense gives up an average of 350 yards per game. Including 199 YPG through the air and 151 YPG on the ground. Statistically they would be the 6th rated team in total defense in the Big Ten, 7th in rushing offense, and 6th in total passing defense. Keep in mind the teams that they have played (minus Texas A&M) are not at the level of talent of most Big Ten schools.

Carr has lots of questions to answer

Tuesday, March 15, 2005BY JIM CARTY

The Ann Arbor News We asked through official channels and personally.

We sent e-mail and a hand-written note.

But Lloyd Carr has consistently declined to sit down with writers from The Ann Arbor News and discuss what happened to the University of Michigan football team in general - and his defense in particular - in the closing months of last football season.

<>Those decisions are disappointing on several levels, but none more so than simple accountability. Michigan fans have been clamoring for months to hear their coach's explanation for why the defense faltered down the stretch. Part of Carr's job is to offer them his thoughts on the situation, even if it's clearly not a part of the job he enjoys.

Almost all fans start with the simplest question: Why did a

defense that allowed an average of 18 points per game in its first eight games give up 33 points per game in its final four contests?

What changed? Did opponents, starting with Michigan State, figure something out? Did the players lose focus? Or was it something else?

Then there's the mobile quarterback issue.

Having been shredded by shifty Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith for 8.1 yards per rush in their final game of the regular season, what adjustments did Michigan make going into the Rose Bowl to stop another running quarterback?

And why didn't those adjustments stop Texas quarterback Vince Young one bit, as he did Smith one better by averaging an eye-popping 9.1 yards per carry en route to a game-high 192 yards rushing?

Other popular questions:

Why did Michigan struggle to tackle against Ohio State and Texas? Why did All-American safety Ernest Shazor disappear down the stretch? Why did linebacker Pierre Woods have little impact all season?

Was linebacker Lawrence Reid - who's subsequently retired due to a neck injury - playing hurt? If yes, did his injury affect his play?

Why wasn't linebacker Joe Sarantos, one of your best special teams players, asked back for a fifth season?

After leading the nation in turnovers earlier in the year, why did the Wolverine defense recover only one fumble and make only one interception over its final four games?

Finally, there's defensive coordinator Jim Herrmann.

Herrmann's defense allowed more points during the regular season than every Big Ten team except Michigan State, Northwestern, Illinois and Indiana (none of which went to a bowl game). Since he's blessed with highly rated recruits at just about every position, how much of the blame for that kind of performance falls on Herrmann's tactics?

How, in Carr's evaluation, is the defensive coordinator held responsible?

Finally, how is Carr going to fix what went wrong?

At his Feb. 2 recruiting press conference - the only press conference he's held since losing to Texas in the Rose Bowl - Carr shut down questions on last season by claiming that recruiting had kept him from properly evaluating the year.

"As a staff, we will do that starting Monday," the coach said.

With Monday long come and gone, and Carr scheduled to hold his annual spring football press conference Thursday, it seems fair to finally expect comprehensive answers.

Especially since the coach now has all the questions right in front of him.
