This is an awful lot of talk about a season that is now 17 years old. I'd ask if we can change the subject slightly to Kordell Stewart throwing a hail mary, but I don't think that was Lloyd Carr at Head Coach that year. Maybe we should talk about the first time Michigan played an FCS team? Or "Clockgate"?

Or, since we aren't giving our friends to the east any love, we can discuss the 2 seconds Lloyd was given when they played Penn State.

I'd probably favor Nebraska in that matchup, too, but as far as using statistical rankings to predict who would win some game, the only statistics I give much of a damn for are DBB's Differential Statistical Analysis (or here for a heavier dose).

I agree. Stats are for us fans to have fun with for the most part and that's about all when it comes who would beat who.

Personally, I think stats, when done well, have a decent ability to predict the most likely outcome of a hypothetical or upcoming head-to-head match-up between two teams. The problem is, they're usually not done well, and total defense, total offense, and the like are examples of stats not done well.

I don't think it's ever possible to have stats that predict who will win. Some stats are better than others, I do agree with that.
