Ads.pubmatic.com has completely locked me out of bp. I'm typing this from a phone, which doesn't load the ads.

It loads the first part of the page in a flash and then just hangs.

Also, the page did eventually load after a few minutes of hanging. Now I seem to be getting through fine.

I think there is something going on. I can connect to other sites without any problems but I had to try about 2-3 times today just to connect and then when I go to reload a page it does not reload and I have to refresh the connect.

If it happens again, check the bottom of the browser where it says "Loading BuckeyePlanet..." Sometimes it will show the address of a specific ad or a picture on a page, which would help in tracking the problem.

This page just tried opening a popup in my browser?

A couple companies try to slip in surveys with their ads that SportsWar is sending us via these bulk agencies.

We've stomped a lot of them out, but if there's more remaining, I need (ideally) a screenshot of the popup, and/or the URLs that tried to come up in the secondary window.

I've had enough of the current state of the ads, and I'm actively looking at alternative solutions, including handling local ad sales here ourselves, doing month-based full-site sponsorships instead of ads, or removing them entirely if we were able to ramp up the number of monthly user contributions. There's a thread about it here in the administrative forum.

The only other thing that comes to mind is clearing cache, but you probably tried that already.

Every once and I while I used to get stuck on the google analytics stuff, but it's been flying smoothly lately.

Haven't been around much lately, but I have found the culprit (sort of). I'm running nVidia ActiveArmor firewall. If I turn that off and switch to the stock XP SP2 firewall, everything runs fine. As soon as I switch back to the nVidia firewall, however, the load problems come back.

Now if I could just figure out what the firewall suddenly doesn't like...

Some of our scripts are related to Yahoo. I haven't quite figured this out, but we run (as part of vBulletin) a group of scripts called "YUI." I wonder if those are being blocked for you.

Welcome to NLOID. When we don't have 500 people reloading the site over and over again for updates, the load times will improve. I'm watching the machine, and have turned off non-essential services -- the rest is out of my hands.

This is a Big Ten website; so naturally, it has thicker ankles, and it's slower than servers that grew up in the South. We're more of a power than a burner site.

We could probably recruit a server from Florida or something, and there are good ones to be had for sure -- but those sometimes come with all sorts off-the-rack issues. You just have to be careful and do your due diligence.

At the end of the day, there's something to be said for a box that was born in Ohio and always wanted to be a Buckeye website. We can't keep letting those in-state machines get away. :nerd:
