London Olympics: "We're pretty much ready..."

Yeah....this team would definitely beat the Dream Team....errr wait....

David Robinson and Patrick Ewing would rip this team's guts out and that doesn't even cover what Jordan, Pippen, Bird and Barkley would do to them...
I agree, because the US team this Olympics lacked talented bigs. When Tyson Chandler is the best center you can field, you have a weakness. Robinson and Ewing would have a field day.

alright, who is pumped for the grand finale of the Olympics....the women's modern pentathlon!!
I'm sure there are plenty of males here who ejaculate over the mere thought of women with firearms.

That hurts me. Deep. Why'd you have to go there man? (sobbing sound)

Since their times eliminate them from the talk of being the greatest sprinter and makes Bolt the best, then therefore they have been relegated to obscurity due to their times. You cannot use times as the basis for your argument and then ignore how using that as the basis of your argument has on the history of the sport. You have also destined Bolt to not be the best of all time considering the fact his records will probably be beat some time in the future.

"Obscurity": The state of being unknown, inconspicuous, or unimportant.

Does not being the greatest sprinter of all time make Jesse Owens or Carl Lewis unknown, inconspicuous, or unimportant? Show me where I said that. Otherwise, I'll just have to assume either that you didn't understand the meaning of the term you used OR that you were being intentionally hyperbolic to force a bad argument.

You used times as the end all be all to the discussion. I am simply pointing out that is a poor argument, since if you do that you relegate past sprinters to obscurity (which you say they are not). Therefore your argument, by your own admission, is flawed.

You're assuming Bolt's times will be beat. With human evolution, that's likely. But it could be a while. Mennea's 200m record lasted for 17 years before Michael Johnson broke it. And I would suggest 9.58 and 19.19 could stand for quite a while.

Again, don't use words you either don't know or don't intend and we won't have this little misunderstanding. Right now, Bolt is the greatest sprinter of all time. Objectively. And if we can't say that about him, then we can't ever say it about any athlete in any sport ever.

Jesse Owens best times would not even put him in the top 10 of sprinters. How about this, you severely minimize their accomplishments simply by using times. Apparently such runners as Armin Hary, Bob Hayes, Jim Hines, Valery Borzov, and Allan Wells are all better than Jesse Owens. That makes Jesse Owens pretty obscure since those guys (many I am sure you never heard of, and those are actually Olympic gold medal winners) are all better than Jesse Owens. The only reason Jesse Owens is not obscure is because people don't use your argument to judge historical athletes. If they did, he would be nothing more than a footnote and yes, stuck in obscurity. It's not hyperbole, it is stating how poor your argument is. Seriously, just admit times are not the best way of comparing historical athletes and move on. You are arguing out of both sides of your mouth and looking rather foolish.

At risk of getting a little timeout here, I'm going to have to call you kind of a bitch. Thanks for the interaction.

You live in the now and focus solely on one sport, everyone else has a historical perspective and realizes that certain sports are much more strenuous than others.

It's whatever, I guess. We'll just have to disagree.
