Los Angeles Lakers (17x NBA Champions)

What do you guys think about Boston with signing Shaq now? Honestly, he is over the hill and won't be that big of a threat to opposing teams anymore. And with the signing of Ratliff for us, that gives us an extra big man to against a Shaq or anyone else that may get Bynum and Gasol in foul trouble.

Honestly, I am kind of bummed about it. This pretty much guarantees that his jersey will never go up on the wall at Staples. Say what you want about the guy, he was a good Laker, he helped us win 3 championships and he did a lot for the Southern California community.

I have nothing personal against Shaq at all. He is one of the best Laker centers ever, and like you said helped us win 3 championships. When people think of Shaq 15-20 years from now, they will probably remember his Laker days. His jersey probably won't go up on the walls, but it should. It will be interesting to see where he goes to retire, if it matters to him.

I'm pleased to read this:

Guard Shannon Brown to re-sign with Lakers - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

LOS ANGELES (AP)?Shannon Brown(notes) is returning to the Los Angeles Lakers, turning down more lucrative offers for a shot at a third straight championship.
Brown?s agent, Mark Bartelstein, told The Associated Press on Thursday that the high-flying free agent guard agreed to a two-year deal worth $4.6 million to return for his third season with Los Angeles.
?He?s been there two years, and they?ve won two championships,? Bartelstein said. ?There?s very few times you have a chance to go for a threepeat. When you have that opportunity, he couldn?t pass it up.?

Phil Jackson not coming back to Lakers

Phil Jackson confirmed yet again this is his swan song as Lakers coach. He?s tells the LA TIMES he?s heading to retirement after the NBA playoffs.
?I knew that if I went back this time, this is it,? he said Thursday. ?I never wanted to coach after I was 60. I thought there was going to be a communication gap. I felt kind of like an obligation to come back ? to fulfill this and complete a chapter.?
Jackson doesn?t like the NBA life, with lots of travel, bad weather, poor food, late hours, the whole package
?It?s a really unhealthy lifestyle,? he said. ?I think that?s a good reason to get out of the game in some ways too.?

Kobe Bryant: Gay slur ?not meant to offend anyone?

dt.common.streams.StreamServer.cls

TNT cameras caught Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant hurling an apparent homophobic slur in the direction of referee Bennie Adams during last night's game against the San Antonio Spurs. Bryant had just been whistled for a technical foul. Here, Bryant pleads his case with a ref in 2007.

Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant wasn?t too pleased with referee Bennie Adams after being whistled for a technical foul in last night?s game against the San Antonio Spurs.

TNT cameras caught a visibly upset Bryant hitting a chair, throwing a towel and yelling toward the ref, ?Bennie.? Then, Bryant muttered what appeared to be, ?f---ing f--got.?

TNT analyst Steve Kerr quickly noted: ?You might want to take the camera off him right now for the children watching at home.?

Several gay rights groups have expressed their disgust with the incident.
