even though this has already been refuted by others...i figure i should say something since i was the one to say USC was maybe the best offense in CFB history. I just can't remember a team having two weapons like Leinart and Bush on the same team. Most years their aren't even ANY players as good as either of them in ALL of CFB.

I know Texas has BARELY scored more points than USC per game this year...but points aren't just about offense...defense creates points too...with field position and turnovers. And Texas has a MUCH MUCH better defense than USC. So if you are just going to look at ppg...then it doesn't surprise me that Texas is right there with USC. And is also the reason why I think Texas is the better team.

BUT...just looking at offense alone, I can in no way see how Texas is as good as USC. I could throw out stats...but they've already been thrown out there. It's not a knock on Texas...they are awesome...USC is just out of this world this year when it comes to offense.

I understand that that is meant as a compliment to people: "He forgot more about <whatever> than any of us will ever know." But why is he forgetting it? It seems to me that he should remember that kind of thing if he wants to be considered the top of his field.

Reading the article that was linked, Holtz is just making some objective football observations - pretty tame stuff, and the author, Roger Brown is the one "dramatizing" it by calling the OSU DBs "undersized" and making the comment about slicicng up OSU's D like a Christmas ham, or whatever.

Holtz isn't saying anything remotely ridiculous as the crap that all the ESPNers were saying before the '03 Fiesta Bowl.
Now THERE was some stupidity.

Why, whatever do you mean? I mean heck, it was obvious that Miami should have been playing New England instead of Ohio State, because we just didn't belong on the same field. Kinda like Miami should have been playing the Bears or the Giants in '86....

And as far as "Montana, Bettis, and most ND fans..." go, Chief, I think you'll get plenty of disagreement on all 3 counts, though Montana and Bettis are definitely not as bad as some others. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: most ND alumni are good people, but most ND "fans" (like Cryami fans) have nothing to do with the actual school, and they are infinitely worse.

Because this 2005 USC team hasnt one anything, they have a great offense. However, there have been many teams this year that have taken USC down to the wire. Maybe its just me but this team isnt that great. Notice i said team and not offense. I think Texas, OSU, Auburn, Miami(FL) and on a good day PSU, ND, LSU, and maybe even UGA would take USC down inside thew final minute. If USC had a defense i'd be impressed.

Our 2002 was the exact opposite of the 2005 usc team in this sense:

The 2002 Miami team would smoke this USC team. I thought herbie was smarter than this. Lets see if USC can get outta Pasadena first. If they beat the hell outta Texas i'll agree.

I dont see USC stopping them. And i can see PSUs defense holding USC off. This offense would be like USCs Offense. They would put up 50+ against USCs D.

It would take quite a lot for our defense to play like it did that day again. All those turnovers and opprotunities. Also...I think the fact that the game was at the Shoe helped a lot too. I think the Texas offense has gotten better as the season has gone on. It's tough for me to be like, yep we'd beat them now, when we didn't beat them before. I know we didn't have the QB situation settled then...and I know we were one break away from winning...but the fact is...Texas won...on the road.

Could we beat Texas? Sure...of course. But would we? I'm not sure of that at all. We haven't seen a defense as close to as good as Texas' since...well since we played Texas. And their defense has grown stronger as the season has gone on as well.

Ohio State is good...don't get me wrong...I think they are the 3rd best team in the country. I'm just can admit when a team is better than the Buckeyes. Texas proved it already.

If there were a playoff...and Texas was playing Ohio State...I'd expect Texas to be the favorite...and I'd say if Ohio State won...it would be an upset.

I think on a neutral field it would be a pick-em. But for the sake of argument...Texas coughed up a ton of turnovers on our field that night. I'm guessing they wouldn't have so many the next time around. I see that evening out the advantage OSU would gain with the improved offense.

I would personally pick the PSU team that put up some 60 points on us over USC offensively
OU won 55 or 54 games in a row in the 50's with like 3 or 4 different quarterbacks. That has to be a better dynasty.
So till they beat Texas (and they wont) and become repeat (not 3-peat) champions, I'm just not going to be impressed. They played inferior competition all year long

IMO, USC is a better dynasty due to the limited # of scholarships as opposed to back then.
