Wonder what kind of SUV it was? :susp:

pfft, that doesn't matter, people here are selling SUV's for nothing, if he was in a Prius, I would have some serious questions :p

And for the record, I am not buying any of this. Pete does a lot to build hype around his program, and this would get the whole pac10 excited, until I see something that says he's legitimately injured, I am going to expect a hoax. Sorry USC fans, faking suicide and arrests gets you that.

dislocated kneecap is the preliminary word.
Hopefully its a dislocated kneecap without any ligament damage or tears.

Having dislocated a kneecap before, it's a very painful injury. Mine was a non-contact injury as well and it strained two ligaments (ACL, MCL) in the process, but didn't tear any. When the kneecap moves from its place, it puts a lot of pressure on the ligaments so ligament damage is possible as well. I was able to bear weight on my knee the next day, which brought my rehab from months to 4-6 weeks. I came back in 3 weeks with the help of a giant kneebrace with a metal hinge on either side keeping my kneecap from moving anywhere. I was able to play basketball at a normal pace after 4 weeks, though the kneebrace I used made running pretty awkward.

It all depends on what was damaged as to how long he will be out (if it's indeed a dislocated knee), but the odds would be stacked against him to be healthy enough to play in the regular season game of the year. Luck and prayers to Sanchez. What a shame to have an injury like this given the opportunity that lays before him.

Quarterback Mark Sanchez sustains injury

Junior starter is carted off the field and taken for x-rays shortly after start of today's practice

By Gary Klein, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
August 9, 2008

USC quarterback Mark Sanchez was carted off the field today shortly after the start practice with a possible injury to his left knee.

Sanchez, who won the starting job in the spring, fell to the ground before the Trojans began stretching exercises.

A witness reported seeing Sanchez doing a carioca shuffle. He then went to throw a football, put weight on his left knee and collapsed.

Sanchez was helped to the trainers' table, where ice was administered and his jersey and shoulder pads were removed. He was then carted to the locker room and was then taken for x-rays.

Mark Sanchez - here is what I saw
The team was going through their normal streching and warm-up drills prior to practice. One of the things the players and coaches do during the drills is they throw balls back and forth to each other, it's something that they have been doing for as long as I can remember. One of the traditions for Mark is that he throws balls to the linebackers, apparently he went to throw the ball and came down awkwardly on his left leg. I talked to a lot of people on the sidelines and I couldn't find anybody who actually saw it happen. I was taking some photos of Blake "better than beanie" Ayles when one of our regular posters, webmasterbob, came up behind me and asked if I had gotten a shot of Sanchez. I looked to the right and Mark was on sitting on the ground with both legs stretched out in front of him. There were two trainers on either side who were already attending to him. He wasn't on the ground for more than five minutes before the trainers helped him to his feet and began slowly walking him off the field. Pete Carroll had come over to check on him during the time he was on the ground. As he was being walked off the field, it didn't look like anything serious, he appeared to be able to put some weight on the leg. He was taken to the trainers table where he stayed for several minutes while they wrapped his left knee heavily in ice and then he was put on a cart and taken out of the back exit of the practice field next to Dedeaux Field. He did not appear for the rest of practice.

The coaches addressed the team after practice and gave them the brief update and stressed that they didn't have any firm details. We should know more tonight or, at the latest, tomorrow morning.

BREAKING NEWS: Sanchez injury update
08-08-2008 7:02 p.m.

Mark Sanchez dislocated his left knee cap at Friday’s practice, but it went right back into place and there are no other complications, Coach Pete Carroll said minutes ago after hearing the diagnosis from team doctors.

Sanchez will begin rehabilitation on Monday and his status will be day-to-day from there, Carroll added.

“This is great news for what happened,” Carroll said. “Mark’s encouraged, he’s smiling and he knows he’s going to be alright.”

USC QB Sanchez carted off field

ESPN - USC QB Sanchez carted off field with apparent knee injury - College Football

USC starting quarterback Mark Sanchez was carted off the field at Friday's practice in Los Angeles with an apparent knee injury.

Sanchez, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound junior, won the starting job this spring over 2006 Arkansas transfer Mitch Mustain. Sanchez collapsed to the ground during stretching drills before practice in obvious pain, Los Angeles-area media reported. The severity of the injury was unknown Friday. Coach Pete Carroll was expected to address the media after practice.

I just read over on the scout USC board that Pete Caroll said that the knee popped right back into place and that there was no damage done to the ligaments.

That's the good news. The knee is in a brace though and will obviously be unstable for awhile. How long is anyones guess. It will defintely set him back a few weeks at the very least, I would imagine.

I JUST logged on and saw this!

Holy Crap!

They do have another highly skilled QB, and neither had much experience. It may not be a big deal, or maybe Mustain is a gamer and USC will be better off.

Either way though, this was a much more significant thread topic than I expected to see when I logged on.

Report: USC's Sanchez carted off field with dislocated knee cap
