Game Thread Minnesota @ Ohio State - 10/13/18, 12:00PM (FS1)

TBO I actually thought about working Tate into this game. I would like to see him and Haskins on the field together. Need to give these teams something to think about. Just bringing Tate in screams read option.

That’s the point man....you want it to scream read option. Read option forces LB’s and DE’s to play assignment football, since there is fear Tate keeps it and exposes the backside.

Right now, teams are abusing us at LOS in short yardage because there is zero fear of Haskins keeping. They slant hard one direction and the DE and OLB are crashing from weakside creating a huge clustetfuck of bodies and no push.

You need the QB threat to keep the DE and OLB honest and playing assignment football. As talented as our guys are, asking them to block 6 on 9, which is what is happening, isn’t conducive to successful short yardage running situations. Let Tate play situationally to free up space for Dobbins/Weber, or execute QB slams into the line. It’s actually pretty simple.

Wild Cat in NFL is less than productive.

It’s not wild cat when it’s a QB who presents a threat of throwing, but more importantly, it’s not a given Martell is keeping it.

The true Wildcat is a RB who takes direct snap, and runs downhill.

I’m not asking for Wildcat. I’m asking for similar run play calls JT executed. JT wasn’t running wildcat.

Don't agree at all. This can be accomplished without that. Tate situationally is fine but fail to see how that opens up the run game. Makes no sense. It's playcalling and execution. Begins in the trenches and it hasn't been there last 2 weeks. See what adjustments are made against Purdon't. Undefeated and I'll take it

I feel like I’m talking to a wall a bit.

Tate opens up the run game because the weakside CANNOT crash without fear of what happens on the backend. You’re essentially removing 2 bodies currently going straight downhill at Dobbins/Weber, and now replacing it with two players who need to read the QB, diagnose who has ball, and then react. Right now, no diagnosing is needed.....it’s an all out sprint to the RB with zero concern for the QB.

In short yardage, a split second is difference between 2 yards and a loss
of 1 yard. That time it takes to diagnose play is critical.

Is it just me, or is "Row the Boat" a stupid motivational tool? When you row a boat, you are facing the wrong way and can't see where you're going.

As I’m typing back and forth, UGA has replaced Fromm (pocket QB) with Justin Fields.

UGA’s run game is humming now. The duel threat ability of Fields is opening up running lanes for UGA’s RB’s.

And again, I’m not asking for Tate to replace Haskins, I’m asking that Tate get situational snaps in situations it increases our conversion chances in short yardage.

Can say the same. Already said Tate is appropriate at times. Can't rely on that. Need to utilize the strengths already on the field like corner fades and quick slants. Arguing in circles

We're "chopping wood"!
Good lord that was a lot tougher than I thought it might be! Got to get Harrison and Cooper back and hope Munford can play next week. It's going to be another tough one next week!
Hilliard played pretty good today but Browning continues to disappoint.
Pryor got targeted a lot today and got an interception and dropped another sure one. He is showing inpreprovement.

I just don’t see need to put ball in air when we have the talent to move the ball forward 3 feet and it’s a Meyer comfort zone.

I feel like the answer is obvious....it’s just about incorporating it and getting comfortable with it.

You don’t need a running QB to be successful running the ball. Pittsburgh doesn’t pull Big Ben out to run the ball. They run out of the shotgun. I think our blocking scheme and our play calling needs work. Quit doing delays, quit dancing in the backfield, hand the ball off and go. Our line needs to get nasty, right now they’re soft and get no push. If there are too many guys in the box then throw it until they back off. Quick slants, etc.
