Most Underrated Movies (merged)

First... lemme give major props to the following:

Donnie Darko
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Miller's Crossing (though I believe its release year was '90)
Boondock Saints (though its cult following is gi-normous. sequel on the way called All Saints Day)
SLC Punk(!) (that ! is there for good reason)
Bound
Sexy Beast(ya scary until he gets fuckin' owned)

Gangster No. 1-nice British gangster flick.

Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels-Don't know if this one counts due to the popularity of Pulp Indies (amazing what Pulp Fiction can do to a genre).

Snatch-If Lock-Stock doesn't count, Snatch definitely doesn't. One of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen. Nonstop laughs and a good story.

Suicide Kings-All kinds of good performances in here. Jay Mohr, Dennis Leary, Sean Patrick Flannery. Though I liked him in it.. you know a movie's good when you feel Chris Walken *OPINION plz don't kill me :)* delivers one of the poorer performances of the movie.

Glengary GlenRoss-Spacey. Pacino. Harris. Lemmon. ...Alec Baldwin. The cast alone sells it for me.

Brother-A subtitled gangster movie about a former Yakuza... one of my all-time favorite flicks. This is a must-see for anyone who digs gangster movies.

(Insert Akira Kurosawa movie here, Yojimbo for starters. I think this movie holds the record for number of remakes done about it. He stays on the list because he's the best director ever.. 1950's or not)

Moonlight in a Box-John Tuturro and Sam Rockwell are geniuses. See it. Another one of my all-time favorites... whenever I get too stressed out I think about The Kid... and when it gets really bad I just pop the movie in.

Ong-Bak The Thai Warrior-is out in theaters still in some places... hurry you can still catch it! Another subtitled movie... Tony Jaa does all of his own stunts with grittier fights than a Jackie Chan movie and better comedy.

I do love my movies. Heh.

Good calls on SLC Punk! and Memento. I thought City of God was going to be better than it was, but it was basically Menace II Society in Rio,IMO. Still a pretty cool flick.

187 is another very underrated film-Samuel L. Jackson is brilliant, but plays a very quiet and underrstated character.

I loved "Garden State"...Of course I have watched a lot of non-traditional romance films lately. Another good one is "Stateside", I'd watch it just for Rachael Leigh Cook though.

Garden State was great! I've been listening to the soundtrack non-stop. If you like non-traditional romance, you would probably like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Italian for Beginners (Dutch), Secretary, and Sliding Doors.

wow there are alot of movies in there that I have seen, and thought were crap, but that's not what this threads about, and who am I to bang on someone's taste in movies? (run on sentences are fun)

The Usual Suspects - probably my favorite movie.

Brotherhood of The Wolf - hated it the first time I saw it, but didn't actually see it continuously. I only saw the first 45 minutes one day, and the rest the next day. Totally broke up any flow the movie had, and you really need to watch this movie from start to finish to enjoy it. Watched it all the way through about a year later, and realized that I was a dumbass for not liking it.

Identity - didn't get a lot of recognition, but was a very good suspense/thriller.

Matchstick Men - If you go into it thinking that it's going to be about conmen, then you're going to be pissed. If you realize that it's deeper than that, then you just might like it.

Boiler Room - Other than having the festering turd Ben Affleck in it, this movie was pretty good. Lots of fairly big names, that weren't big at the time.

Scary. I agree with tibor. Falling Down was a fantastic movie.

:slappy:

Gang member 1: Whatcha doin' Mr?
Bill Foster: Nothing.
Gang member 1: Nahh, man. You're trepassing on private property.
Bill Foster: Trepassing?
Gang member 2: You're loitering too, man.
Gang member 1: That's right, you're loitering too.
Bill Foster: I didn't see any signs.
Gang member 1: [pointing at a graffiti skull] Whatcha call that?
Gang member 1: Nahh man, it's not fucking graffiti. That's a sign.
Gang member 2: He can't read it man.
Gang member 1: Well then I guess I'm gonna have to read it for you. It says this is fucking private property. No fucking trespassing. That means fucking you.
Bill Foster: It says all that?
Gang member 1: Yeah.
Bill Foster: Well, maybe if you wrote it in fucking English, I would fucking understand it

Frank: Listen, what am I paying my fucking dues for? This is my golf course! If I wanna play here, I will play here. If he gets hit with my titleist, that's his fucking problem. Fore! Fore!
[Hits ball]
Bill Foster: [the ball barely misses his head; whips out rifle] Five! What the hell are you trying to do? Kill me with a golf ball? It's not enough you have all these beautiful acres fenced in for your little game, but you gotta kill me with a golf ball? You should have children playing here, you should have families having picnics, you should have a goddamn petting zoo. But instead you've got these stupid electric carts for you old men with nothing better to do.
[Fires his rifle at a golf cart, causing it to roll down the hill]
Bill Foster: Now aren't you ashamed?
[after Bill shoots the golf cart, triggering Frank's heart attack]
Bill Foster: What's wrong?
Frank: My - heart...
Bill Foster: Well, what can I do about it?
Frank: Pills... get p-pills...
Bill Foster: Where are your pills?
[Frank points towards the cart, which has just plunged into a water hazard]
Bill Foster: Bad news. Your little car's gonna drown. And you're gonna die, wearing that stupid hat. How does it feel?

[Bill Foster approaches the gang after they crashed]
Bill Foster: You missed.
[Foster picks up the UZI and shots to the car]
Bill Foster: I missed too.
[Foster threatens the gang member as he begs for his life. Foster shoots him in the leg]
Bill Foster: You see? That's the concept
[Picks up the gym bag with the guns]
Bill Foster: Take some shooting lessons, asshole

Someone mentioned Delicatessen, one of my all time favorites. The same director also did City of Lost Children: less funny, weirder, very interesting.

The Cook the Thief His Wife and Her Lover: Great movie. Hard to explain. Guy runs a restaurant in the (future?) in a weird society. A great restaurant. He is a futuristic dictator kinda fiend with it, his wife is bored. . . The set, including clothing, changes color depending on what room people are in. . .

Angels and Insects was pretty good. An aristocratic victorian love story kinda deal.

Evil Dead 2 is a must. :)

In the Company of Men is a brilliant flick - two guys set out to ruin a woman as romantic revenge against women. . . Don't watch it with your girlfriend/wife.

Happiness - great movie. Who doesn't like a movie about child rapists?

Just to throw in a documentary: watch the Panama Deception, about us invading Panama. . .

Totally agree with Boondock Saints and Suicide Kings. I had no idea there was a sequel in the works thanks for that bit! And I realize this is off subject, but if you like Clint Eastwood, I would highly recommend Million Dollar Baby.

Great, great movie. I have never met a woman who likes this movie. It is hilarious.

Waitress: Can I get you guys a pitcher (of beer)?
