National Chaampionship Hopes

actually no, im not kidding you. everyone knows the pac-10 is weak. osu will win the remainder of their games, and climb back into the hunt, while if usc loses again, they will drop farther than you think.

the sec is tough as hell this year, those teams are going to just beat the shit out of each other all season long.

I hope you are right, but IF USC LOSES to arizona state, a top 25 team at the start of the year, they probably will not drop far enough to get us back into title contention. we dont need USC to lose, we need some other team to lose IMO and help us get back into the number 2 spot. USC puts up way too many pts and blowout games for a minor lose to a decent team to drop them out of contention.

Best case scenario

Texas wins every game by alot and becomes the #1 team. USC loses any game on their schedule.

The AP poll is not in the BCS formula. This is a very good thing. If OSU runs the table their only loss would be to the #1 team and we played a great game and barely fell short.

USC would drop to 3rd behind us. Nobody should be able to rank USC ahead of us if they lose to Cal, ASU, or UCLA. The only problem is if we beat Texas in the RB and USC beats whoever in another BCS Bowl we would probably split the NC. The BCS NC WOULD GO TO US AND THE AP NC WOULD GO TO USC.

What will be interesting will be if a deserving candidate, like ourselves, gets left out of the title game (ie USC loses a game and plays Texas, while we are ranked #3)...

Can we claim a NC if the AP picks us #1? I don't see any reason why that won't be treated the same way as the bizarre conclusion to the 03 season.

I would much rather play for the title thru the BCS, I just think that scenario is possible.

If every team in the country loses 1 game this year, then LSU would get extra votes by the media darlings because their state was hit by a hurricane. Plus they had to play at Arizona State instead of at home.

Another thing is that there's alot of football season left to play and injuries happen, especially to key personnel. What if Matt Leinard gets hurt? USC will instantly become beatable. The same for Vince Young and Texas.

That's why they play the games.

It's so ironic that, before the Texas game, many posters were whining about the "fact" that Ohio State would get screwed by the BCS even if the Bucks beat the 'Horns, and that some "media darling" team would go to the Rose Bowl instead. Now, many posters are saying that Ohio State should still make it to the Rose Bowl even with a loss to Texas, and with 8 or 9 teams ahead of the Bucks in the polls. Go figure....

The ONLY way we have a shot:

USC and Texas loses twice.

Do you think this will happen?
What??? :roll1:

If USC lost once I would argue we beat them to it based on SOS alone

I didn't see a lot of people whine about getting screwed by the BCS but maybe you peruse the threads better than I. I think most people are just trying to find ways for OSU to make it there simply because of their passion for the team and the fact that there is a realistic chance. History tells us that usually only one team ends the regular season undefeated. Recent history says otherwise but I still tink the chances aren't great, unless you consider Texas and USC.

after the punishment that vince young took on saturday, i seriously doubt that he will be injured this year, at 6'6" 235, hes a load to bring down, and its really difficult to even get a square hit on him.

i doubt he will get injured but he is not immune. at the texas game, carpenter hit him so hard that he almost did not get back up and there was a timeout just to see if he was okay. unfortunatly, he came back in the next play.

More importantly, the Bucks can win an outright Big Ten title, which should be the #1 goal at this point.
Greenies for you. This should be every teams first priority. The importance of winning a conference championship is pretty much ignored by many fans (or is not discussed as much as it used to be) since the start of the BCS. If the Buckeyes win the Big10 outright, which will probably take an undefeated conference run, they will be in the thick of it all.

Uh, people? Do you follow how the BCS works? The "horrible, evil, Buckeye-hating media" does NOT VOTE IN THE BCS.

I swear, when I lived in California, I got so sick and tired of listening to the Pac 10 people repeat their "east coast media bias" mantra...it kills me to come back to OHIO and hear essentially the same thing from Buckeye fans.

Repeat after me....the media doesn't decide the BCS teams...the media doesn't decide the BCS teams....

You people keep this up, and you're going to earn us a reputation as some of the most ignorant fans in D1A.

Yes, OSU has the best shot of ANY CURRENT one-loss team. As for future one-loss teams, the computers WILL like our loss better than any hypothetical USC loss to ASU. Once the BCS polls start to come out, I'll be doing a breakdown of how things are shaping up...some of you people will still be crying and whining about the media, however, despite the fact that Sagarin's computer can't watch ES fucking PN.

Do you think this will happen?
You are clearly a fan with less than infinite vision. :(
In all fairness, it is clear that getting into the NC chase requires several things to happen, only one of which is within the Buckeyes control.
1 -- The Buckeyes have to win out.
2 -- All the teams presently above us have to lose, preferably in less sturdy match-ups than a #2 vs #4. And that is quite likely to happen.

However, it does not require that BOTH USC and Texas lose twice. Sure, it becomes a more palatable match-up with one or OTHER of Texas or USC losing twice. But it does not demand both lose two times.

It is too early to throw in the towel, and -- sorry, OSuPHan it is probably too early to prognosticate on a trip to the Rose Bowl. However, I'll take issue with someone spouting negativity, in place of rational analysis, before I crush a Buckeye fan's dreams of running the table, and having all else fall into place.
