OSU air force?

I was always under the impression that OSU had the use of a Lear, King Air, or some such to allow our coaches multiple contacts in a short amount of time........seriously. I don't know if they're parked at Don Scott, or whether they are leased or 'donated' by wealthy alums. (Don't know if they are owned either).

It only makes sense reading what some assistant coaches schedules look like. Some of those high schools are pretty podunk places, and the nearest airport able to take a 737 may be hours away. I really don't think that Thad or Tressel drive up I-71 to see a recruit play, and then drive back again. Their time is too valuable to waste on the road like that.

Is this a violation, or just good business? Read about Florida State sending down a plane to pick up a recruit for an official, but didn't read about any recruiting violations (who was the guy that ate 5 steaks, and 4 lobsters, and then signed with U of Miami??).

Willie Williams. And the rules (regarding planes, names on scoreboards, and other things) changed shortly after his stories were told. The recruits can only be transported in commercial planes now - the private ones can be used by the coaches, but they can no longer fly any recruits in them.

thanks BB73. Willie Williams it was. I didn't realize the rules changed (the Willie rule?) on taking recruits in private planes. I'll still wager that the 'Big Boys' (USC, Texas, Oklahoma, tOSU, Fla, FlaSt, Miami, etc) all give their coaches special treatment "in pursuit of the next 5*'.

Thanks for clearing away the fog from my eyes.

Maybe it has been discussed previously, but OSU has a premier Aviation Program on the academic side and I believe the University owns several aircraft of varied sizes/capacities. Doesn't the FB team travel on these University owned aircraft?

I don't think the football team travels on any of them, they are mostly smaller planes, but I am pretty sure the coaches do...OSU airport has several planes branded with OSU on them, and I know we apparently have a very good aviation program

Speaking of recruiting and possible "unfair advantages", when was the last time that espin reported another school (besides notre dame) that got a verbal from a wide receiver on the front page of their college football site?

I'm not sure but I think that Ohio State got a verbal from the number one player in the nation last season and it didn't make the front page of espin's college football page.

Am I whining about it? Maybe, but every little bit helps when it comes to recruiting.
