Game Thread Nebraska Cornhuskers at tOSU, Oct 6th, 8 ET, ABC/ESPN/2

I wore a blue shirt to that game.
Well, there's your first problem.

I had a UT hat on and so did my buddy, but no orange. We ditched our hats during the game.
What the hell kind of fan wears that gear to one of the premiere OOC game of the decade. The guy is losing credibility quickly.

I saw an arsonist start a fire east of campus
Student housing, and the lack of specifics make me think that someone was lighting a grill. Maybe it would be more believable if he provided more specifics and didn't already lose credibility by claiming that he wore a blue shirt to the game. :shake:

I saw a UT family of 5 get pushed to the ground.
How the hell exactly does this work? Did five separate people push them down at once. Did one person push each one down one at a time? Were they all standing in a perfect line and dominoed it?

We had a knife pulled on us.
Then call the cops or go to the media. Going back to the blue shirt credibility, someone was probably grilling again.

We had more chest bumps and more "what's up bro? what the $#@! bro?" than I care to remember.
15th Avenue east of campus is frat row, apposing fans should probably avoid it. It would not surprise me at all based on most of this story if that is where these morons were at.

we were refused service by a bus and 2 cabs.
When 500,000 people are trying to leave an area all at the same time transportation tends to fill up. On a personal note, my cell phone didn't work after that game because the network was overloaded. I never realized it was done deliberately just to fuck with visiting Texas fans.

We had bottles of water and then beer thrown at our heads.
I find this to be the most believable part of the story. Once again, avoid student housing and the problem disappears.

And I was asked to fight at least a half-dozen times. And I'm pretty sure my buddy and I (we were both married and he had children so we weren't exactly looking to make trouble, just wanted to win and get home safely) were threatened physically and offered to fight at least a dozen times between 7:00p and midnite.
Again, don't party on frat row or around student housing, morons.

I visited the south side 1000 times (my dad's business was there). I have been to corners of Mexico, Central America, and Appalachia that would make you sick to your stomach just hearing about them. I have lived near the slums of Oakland, visited family/friends near the roughest parts of Hialeah/Miami, woke up in Compton, and seen the $#@!ty parts of New Jersey, Cleveland, Detroit, and Milwaukee at an age when most Texans thought that Astroworld was in a 'dirty' area. And the most I ever felt in danger of losing my life was in Columbus, Ohio. Every time I read threads like this, I remember just how insane it was. It is still very hard for me to come to terms with just how insane a small number of Americans seemed to me, how threatened for my life I was by a small band of people who probably shopped at Target the very next morning.
Give. Me. A. Fucking. Break.

So if they weren't wearing any Texas gear and weren't starting shit, we're supposed to believe that Columbus, Ohio was the most dangerous place in the country for anyone not wearing Ohio State gear that night?

News flash, there are many, many people in Columbus that don't support the team (and take pride in not supporting the team because it makes them different). Are we supposed to believe that they hide themselves away during night games because they don't have any OSU gear to protect them from abuse if they venture outside?

Park west of the Olentangy river before the game so you don't have to walk through student housing after the game and you will be fine. Or, don't be a moron and start shit and you will probably also be fine unless you're venturing past the rowdiest campus area house parties.

I've got a bad feeling about this game. I just don't see us slowing down their offense very well and unless our offense is really clicking, this could be a close game with us losing.
If our linebackers come to play, I think we'll win this game by 10+. I just don't have the confidence in them to stop a high powered spread offense. This would be HUGE for us though, if they come out and appear to have turned the corner.

Turn what around?

Were there some incidents that night that were over the line? Sure

Is the guy that wrote that a big, fat liar? No doubt about it.

Most college fan bases should behave better than they do, but hyperbole like this is the intellectual equivalent of racism.

EDIT: OK, OK

People have read WAY too much into this. Ohio State's fan base is worse than most. Nowhere in this did I say otherwise.

If you can't see that the guy that wrote the screed is lying; then you're naive to the point of pathetic stupidity.

If that wasn't your point, then you just put words in my mouth. Whatever.
If you come to Ohio Stadium as an opposing fan to a big game, then expect to be booed. Expect to be given a hard time. But don't expect to be physically in danger, unless you yourself are threatening others. You have to remember that you are on our territory. Fans who come in boasting about how they are going to win, are better than Ohio State, and come across as cocky, are not going to be received well. But if you come in with respect for our program, and respect for our fans, then you will in return get that respect back. If you don't like it, then sorry, that's how it works here.

And furthermore, I'm not worried that opposing fans don't feel welcome here. It is nice to share the tradition that is The Ohio State University with other fans, but the less opposing fans here, the more Buckeye fans here.

On the flip side, if we as Ohio State fans go to other places, and start putting down the opposing football program, then we should be prepared to be attacked.

But when I give an "O-H" and I hear in response from an opposing fan "FUCK YOU". That's a problem.

On the flip side, if I hear "Let's go Huskers." My response would be to drown it out with, "Let's go Bucks!"

On a side note, I love when a random, "Let's Go Bucks!" cheer starts in the stands before the team even comes onto the field. I hope this happens several times Saturday night!

Go Bucks!!! We should be proud! We need to quit feeling like we have to defend ourselves! Being the biggest campus and fan base in college football comes with much scrutiny. But there wouldn't be this magnifying glass on us, if we weren't The Best Damn College Football Program In The Land!

Just to follow up real quick, the biggest difference between the Ohio State game experience and other schools is that there isn't a golf course next to Ohio Stadium or open space of any kind. Within two miles to the north, south and east of the stadium are tens of thousands of drunk students partying in or around their houses.

Tens of thousands more people come to those houses to party for games.

If my point by point response to the Texas drama queen didn't make it clear, I would guess that 98.7% of the issues encountered by opposing fans occur when they walk through the housing around the stadium before and after the games.

Night games increase the issues exponentially.

So, to any Nebraska fan that is concerned about this, all you have to do is park west of the Olentangy (like I said previously) and don't wonder around student housing after the game and I can almost guarantee you that you won't run into any problems.

Disagree. If you're running around yelling pro Ohio State things on another team's campus you probably deserve whatever verbal response comes your way. And if you're walking through a large group of drunk students while yelling, you're probably going to get something thrown at you, right or wrong.

Enough fan talk. Decided on Michael Collins single malt on ice while I roast the piggy and then mixed with ginger ale for the game. Also, go some apple cider and rum for the crock pot. Whats your poison for the game? This game still scares the shit out of me. Think we win and hope to have a good injury free game for both sides (players and fans) :oh:

86,

I agree that his account of his experience in 2005 bordered on the absurd. I believe little of it. I also believe that visiting fans should be treated with respect. I've been to enough games to see many of our fans behaving poorly toward fans of other teams simply because they are wearing different colors. As long as they are our guests and are there to cheer for their team they deserve to be treated fairly.

I'll be at the game on Saturday. Our tail gate begins at 6 AM and will last until an hour before the game. Breakfast, lunch and dinner at a tail gate followed by a big time football game. It's going to be an enjoyable day.

Some good points already mentioned.

Visiting Huskers:

1) Don't park curbside by student housing in an effort to save $8 to $10. Find a lot open on game day or a parking garage.

2) If someone yells "O-H" the correct response is "I-O" not "FUCK YOU!"

3) During the OSUMB Ramp Entrance, Across the Field, Script Ohio, and playing of the National Anthem, advise your band that this is not the time to be playing The Eyes of Texas are Upon You.

Didn't mean to derail the topic. I believe that the majority of Buckeye fans are respectful and I'm not discriminating or prejudging anyone. A lot of college programs have problems with unruly fans. I just think that if you or I don't want our school to be perceived as asshats then we should speak out when we see fellow fans misbehaving. Drunk college students have parents that can change their behavior. I would guess parental influence is the primary reason PSU students have done a 180. That post on Shaggy Bevo does seem a little suspicious (blue shirt) and some things were probably overblown but I assumed there was some truth to it. Cut me some slack I think the N on our helmets stands for nowledge. . I hope we give y'all a good game. GBR!!!

Tucker McElroy as your mascot. Hmmm, maybe I've been too harsh on the corn.

I'd buy it that he saw someone setting a fire near the student housing. I saw 2 dumpsters set on fire after we lost to Tennessee in the 2010 NCAA tourney

I mean TCU fans are about the nicest people we have in this state. UT fans I think could handle what happened because we're used to being envied/bashed/treated like $#@! at some venues (I'm looking at you UCF). But those poor TCU folks are gonna think, "Hey, it's the biggest city in Ohio. I'm sure there's lots of culture to see and things to do. And I bet a big program like this is used to being an A+ host to other folks outside their conference. I mean, we're not MIchigan fans-how bad can they be?"

Growing up near Chicago, I visited the south side 1000 times (my dad's business was there).
