Netflix gets me everything I want, but I won't argue the point about the need for competition. That very situation is destroying my satellite radio experience right now.

I find when people complain about netflix taking so long interesting. I know I have never seen a movie be more than a short wait. I already have slumdog millionare as next in my que with no wait. Makes me wonder if in certain areas they just dont have enough to keep up, because I hear people talk about waiting months

When I quit Netflix for BB they were shipping half my movies from California and I wouldn't get new movies for at least 2 months. With BB I get 5 in store every month and everything ships in a day.

That's strange, but I've heard similar stories. When I lived in Dayton my Netflix shipped out of Dayton. Now I live in Cincinnati and I think my discs come from Louisville. It's usually 2-3 business days, and I've subscribed for about three years now.

I'm in Columbus and all of mine have shipped from columbus. I usually have a two day turn around on movies for netflix. If I would have dropped a movie in today they would have gotten it tommorrow, then shipped it out tommorow afternoon and I would have it by Thursday, Friday at the latest.

All mine come out of C-bus also. The turn around time is always 1 day. I also have the live streaming over xbox live so i can get a movie when ever I want it.

In-the-Closet Lesbian Sues Netflix for Releasing Her Movie Preferences - NetFlix - Gizmodo
A mother of two, who also happens to be gay (and not broadcasting it), is anonymously suing Netflix for releasing her movie preferences in that contest they held awhile back. Basically, she's Borking them.

In the course of releasing boatloads of data to contestants in its "Beat Netflix's Recommendation Algorithm" contest, they may not have disguised where that data came from as well as they should. The plaintiff, known here as Jane Doe to preserve privacy, alleges that her identity could be divined from the data, and thus threatens her civil right to privacy. Apparently, two researchers compared Netflix reviews to IMDB reviews and figured out some identities that way.

The suit seeks a cash settlement for each of the 2 million Netflix customers involved, and also seeks to stop the upcoming sequel to the original Netflix contest. We'll keep you updated on the suit—it's a pretty interesting one, for sure. [Wired]

This just in: Most men are closeted lesbians based on their netflix viewing preferences.
 True.
My father in-law rented Brokeback Mountain, thinking it was about modern day cowboys. "They were hugging and wrestling, and then he spit in his hand...I didn't know what the hell was going on!"
In suing Netflix, she's just drawing attention to herself, making it even more likely for people to figure out her identity.

Besides, it's not like straight people don't watch movies with homosexual themes. Netflix on demand has some great documentaries covering GLBT issues. If anyone ever did figure out who she was... unlikely as that is, she could just claim she wanted a different perspective. Or she could just be honest with herself and her peers and come out.

I don't know if you recall it from civics class (obviously because I wasn't in your civics class) but there is a notion of privacy by the 4th (and subsequent 14th) amendments that has come to evolve from legal rulings in this country. It doesn't have to be written in the constitution for it to be a law, actually... it doesn't have to even be mentioned in an amendment. The United States Air Force isn't in or anywhere near the constitution but it is still a military force that has certain powers during times of war that overrule our "civil liberties".

That aside, if you study law there is a noticable relapse to pre-1950's interpretations (such as yours) that were around before the (liberal) Warren Court that lasted aprox. 1950-1967 (dates are a little fuzzy). That's when all of our landmark civil rights' cases were ruled on and ever since then they've been trying to balance it out again.

The Bush Administration did a hell of a job in tipping the scale too might I add.

Netflix streaming is the GOAT.

That's where I differ. I would rather get 5 new releases a month the day they come out at BB than the online content from NF. I was waiting months for new shit while I was with NF and then they would ship it to me from the other side of the country so I was waiting 4-5 days for delivery. If my local BB closed I probably would go back to NF, but I hope it never comes to that. BB gave everyone unlimited in store exchanges for most of Nov and Dec so I got all of the summer movies that came out before xmas with no wait.

The online content for netflix is improving, but it's still not where it needs to be.

Yup, that was my gripe with Gamefly as well (the gaming version of netflix), despite their better prices and inventory that had to be 50 times larger, if not a lot more.

I could get any new release of a game/movie whenever I wanted, and could risk a terrible movie like 'Day the Earth Stood Still' knowing I could return it for another movie within 20 min.

That's the way it started for me until they started throttling me. I've been on BB for 2-3 years, but NF didn't seem to like it when I would turn a movie around the same day (or even next day) so they try to make it work so that they send a movie out and get it back no sooner than 3-4 days. I started stuffing multiple dvd's in my Cleveland envelopes and saving extras so that no matter where they shipped me something from it always went back to Cleveland. Fuckers.
NF does turn around movies faster than BB. I drop my movies off at BB and then they usually don't ship me the next batch for a day or two, but they always come in 1 day. That works out pretty much the same as if I were to mail it to NF since there is a day of shipping that I don't deal with at BB. If I drop movies off at lunch I usually have email confirmation that they checked them in by the time I get back to work.

We have a 2-3 day turn around, not a big deal with me.
