North Carolina Tar Heels (official thread)

Butch Davis. Miami. Clean.

Butch was widely lauded for cleaning up the absolute mess that Miami was up until the mid-90's. How clean that is, I don't 100% know, but I can't remember any major scandals/investigations under his watch. Now, Butch Davis, HC/GM, Cleveland Browns...fuck him in the ear.

Butch ran a clean program with Miami. We we're devastated by him leaving.

By Miami's standards, yeah- he did run a pretty clean program. But you gotta put that into perspective. That's like the 17 year old kids who get done with football practice and spray on some axe and call themselves showered. Clean by their standards...

Butch is hated to this day by the old school Miami guys for changing the culture of the program. The U obviously still had problems, but they were much more like the issues that every program faces.

Luther Campbell was completely cut out of the "family" when B.D. was hired.

Inside Carolina has learned that the NCAA investigation surrounding the UNC football program centers on possible improper benefits provided to the NFL Draft prospects that elected to come back for the 2010 season. The NCAA inquired about benefits coming from non-University influences that included rent, jewelry and travel

A couple of phrases that no coach wants to hear are "NCAA investigation" and "improper benefits". I should have been more specific in my original post. Didn't mean to imply that Davis was involved in any way.

Classic Spurrier...

TheState
?All I know is they had talked to him, and talked to some players at North Carolina. That?s all I know,? Spurrier said. ?Whatever comes (of it), we?ll just have to wait and see. But I can assure that all of our players, our team, has been well-versed or taught about agents or people giving them gifts or money or whatever. ? So if we have a player that accepts money, gifts from agents or whoever, they?ll be ineligible to play.
"We're not going to look the other way like possibly Southern California did. We?re going to abide by the rules."
Spurrier said he had no knowledge Saunders had broken any rules.
?I?m not accusing Weslye of anything. He may be innocent. He may just know those (North Carolina) guys,? Spurrier said. ?But we?ll just have to wait and see how it all comes out.?
