Notes to Team USA for future WBC play

1) If you are going to go to the trouble of entering a team in a competition in which they are keeping score how about you go into it with the mindest of winning the goddamn thing?

2) If an elite US born player isn't hurt and doesn't want to play, fine. Tell the commie mother fucker to pack his shit and try to make millions of dollars playing a game in some other country. He's free to choose which.

3) If you are going to play and try to win, get off your sorry dead asses a little sooner in the off season and be ready to fucking play at a high level by March. I'm sick of hearing how out of shape/not there yet US players are when the other teams are playing like their hair is on fire. Get in shape, get the team together sooner, play some exhibition games and try to WIN!

Quick list of lazy prima donna commie bastards who think they are too goood to play for their country:

Brian Fuentes
CC Sabathia
Cole Hammels
Tim Lincecum
Ryan Howard
Prince Fielder
Josh Hamilton

I'm sure there are more I'm not thinking of.

This is an embarrassment. You ever seen the Canadiens not give a shit about an international hockey event? Hell no you haven't because its their game, they invented it, its part of their culture they have NATIONAL PRIDE.

Men ten times better than anyone you see on the field tonight have given their lives for this country and these sorry ass, spoiled, rich bitch, pussy baseball players can't even get the best team together, put in some early work and be ready to play well to represent their country. This makes me fucking sick to my stomach.

Not sure of everyone either, have not seen Sabathia or Fuentes on a decline list, but Cliff Lee and Brad Lidge did... (I know a lot of clubs including the Indians are bitchy about it.... obviously especially pitchers). Sizemore was originally on the roster but tweaked a hammy... replaced by the now simlilarly tweaked Ryan Braun. (Tribe was excited to let Choo play, because a certain result for S. Korea might release him from his military obligations there).. Where's Josh Beckett? Brandon Webb?

I think, maybe a couple things need to be revisited with the WBC roster make-up....

First, I think the rosters need to be either bigger, or go to a 25/30 format, where you can dress 25 (or whatever the number is) per game but have a 30 player pool... or... allow a certain number of changes between rounds. I think that might make some teams feel a bit better about sending their guys if they knew they wouldn't have to play hurt or something.

Quick note, Sabathia (Who did play in '06) and AJ Burnett did announce that they would not play, I'm unclear if they got a formal invite.

Having said all that... I do, overall like this team... at least position playerwise... as much as I'd like to see Sizemore... and Howard or well... any number of guys that aren't Adam Dunn (No offense to Adam Dunn fans, but, I can think of a number of other guys I'd like to see there, in the 4 slot, inclding the afforementioned list... ) But, I overall like the mix... and the speed on the bases with Roberts, Granderson, Pedroia, Braun, etc has been fun to watch, and, speed never slumps, so in March, I like that approach.

Sabathia
Burnett
Beckett
Webb
Lincecum
Cliff Lee
Brad Lidge
Roy Halladay

Thats quite a bit different talent pool than the one you get Ted Lilly from.

I don't agree with you about Dunn or speed slumping but I do think when you take injuries into account the position players are about all you can ask. Again, Ryan Howard, Prince Fielder, Josh Hamilton, Lance Berkman where are you?

just my 2cents

There were about 3000 people watching that game in Miami according to Colin on the Herd. People don't really care about WBC much. You would probably see more than 3K at any Reds game. if Team USA playing in a WBC is an issue of NATIONAL PRIDE...then more people would go see the game. Canadiens usually fill up hockey arena if the team Canada is playing in a meaningful game.

WBC is Bud Selig's idea to make the game more global. It's just a big marketing tool to increase the popularity of MLB. He's got the right idea...but can't play this in March and expect pitchers to sign up for it.

I didn't give two shits about the WBC for these very same reasons until I started watching. IMO it will continue to gain in popularity as more people watch.

That game last night was absolutely huge for this event imo. Impossible not to get excited about it if you like baseball (and aren't a godless commie bastard).

As far as the March thing goes I don't see any other time to play it.

I agree that the offense is pretty nice. The defense is as well.

The pitchers and their teams are just pussies. As was stated earlier, just get ready before your normal spring routine.

Something is terribly wrong when you trot out Ted Lilly to start in a win or go home game. Was Jamie Moyer not available ?

In fairness to Team USA, alot of the better MLB pitchers are sitting
the WBC out. We've got to hand it to the US pitchers that were not
afraid to compete, even Lilly.

He may have said only about 3K were cheering for USA.

Also... all those people who bet against USA in vBet are commies. More money on PR, Cuba, Japan, Korea,Canada than USA. Shame on you people.

A Rod. Last I checked he was born in the US, went to high school in the US, gets paid in the US, and lives in the US. But most importantly he was born here.

True, but where does he get his drugs?

That would be a compelling tournament. Teams divided by the origin of their PEDs.

BTW In the 6 games team USA has played Dunn is 7 for 16 (.438)/8R/6BB/3HR/3 RBI

He's not hurting the team by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm sure he loafed out to LF once and didn't run out a pop fly somewhere in there. He's a bum, Marty told me so.
