Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

Charlie Weis was the hemorrhoid on the ass of those Superbowl teams. How have the Patriots done without Weis since he left? I'm pretty sure they're doing just fine without him. Notre Dame, on the other hand, hasn't sniffed respectability with him at the helm.

So, no, Weis hasn't 'won' any big games. He has plenty of rings, but it's pretty clear that neither he nor Mangino nor Crennel were key cogs on that team. It's a red herring to say they were.

In addition, if you read these boards you'd know that there are numerous reasons to believe the line will improve with the graduation of some personnel.

HMMM !! So I guess you know more about football than Parcells and Belichick, both hired CW and not only retained him but promoted him as well. Both of these HOF coach's remain in contact with CW to this day.
I would bet big bucks that both Parcells and Belichick would laugh at your thoughts.

I started this to talk some football ...... why do you guys have to constantly start stuff ?? Yeah I know CW is fat, yeah I know he has never won a big game, but does anyone really know how it is all going to turn out. I am not saying he will be a great coach someday but many great coach's that had rough starts ended up doing just fine.

I think ND is going to have a fine season and I also think the talent is such that they could make a run in the next few years. Shoot me for being optomistic....

It's the off season so stick to the poli threads or the other mundane discussion groups until August . No football talk is permited.

Now for Tressell, he has a heck of a track record but as of late... he has to start winning the big games just like Charlie does.

Yeah, Tressel and Weis need to start winning big games. The difference is that Weis also needs to stop losing little games.

Here's the thing: ridiculous homerism isn't talking football, it's ridiculous homerism. I have yet to see anybody say that ND won't be better this year. However, claiming that they could hang with OSU this year is a bit far fetched. Why? They certainly have the talent to do it, and OSU loses some good players. However, there's a very, very large gap between the coaching talent that the two teams have. Perhaps the only area where it's even close is the DC's. Weis sucks. Period. End of discussion. You can clamor about his coaching the Patriots and how HoF coaches hired him, but the bottom line is that his record as a college coach is pathetic. He has yet to beat a team with a pulse; the vast majority of his wins are against teams with losing records, whereas his record against teams with winning records is almost 0.000 (I believe he has 2 or 3 wins against winning teams, but I can't be arsed to look it up). He has never beaten a ranked team. Tressel, on the other hand, is probably in the top 5 coaches in CFB (although his failings of late have taken some shine off of his reputation). Even with the big game collapses in the past few years, he's still ten times the coach that Weis is. That's not just my opinion, either, that's born out by the facts and statistics. So yes, Ntre Ame should improve somewhat this year. They have some talent. Their coaching is still laughable. That's the difference.

So that's pretty much the entirety of the discussion: you're optimistic about ND's talent (and rightfully so), and everyone else reminds you that Charlie Weis is still the head coach (for the reasons previously enumerated). That's it. That's going to be the tune until Weis starts beating teams that don't drool on themselves and need naps at halftime, so just make peace with it.

It also happens that Weis is a slovenly fatty with an inflated ego and poor interpersonal skills. That's just icing on the cake; we'd hate Ntre Ame even without his stupid ass at the helm, this just gives more incentive.

No No!!

Michigan and Notre Dame are back on top of the college football world.

Based on...

well...

nothing really, but they are back! Tate Forcier had a great game against the 2's. Never mind that the D struggled somewhat against the 2's. Michigan is back.

And ND? Well, they were playing sophomores last year because of TY and they beat the [censored] out of Hawaii! Now, after an off season, they are better than Ohio State!

RR and Chuckie are the two top coaches in college football. I think I read it on ESPN.

I did not say better... all I said was that I think that for the first time in years ND has the talent to match up with OSU. Therefore I think it would be a very good game. I did say that ND has areas on it's team that are better than OSU.

You guys keep asking why I think ND will be pretty good and I told you but after last year why do you think OSU is going to be so great? OSU'S offense was nothing to right home about last year and you lose most of the line, your receivers and by far your best RB. Not to mention your best linebacker and DB.

NDC, I think that a quick review of the ranking of college recruiting classes since Weis arrived will tell you that talent has not been the problem in the program, its developing the talent that's the problem.

Several Super Bowls if I recall !! I am sure you have seen his rings!!:biggrin:
Now that was funny.......

Real answer- we are still waiting.......

I think the real answer is that he just hasn't received the support at Notre Dame that he got at the Patriots.

You and all of the other Notre Dame fans have a genuine gripe with the university. Notre Dame seems to be unable to understand that coaching genius begins with a good understanding of your opponent, which only videotapes of their offensive and defensive play-calling signals, eh?

Because we've shown time and time again that Weis is not a college football coach. Fuck his "schemetic advantage". He did OK his first two seasons--with Willingham's recruits for the most part--yet has sucked the last two seasons with many, if not most, of his starters being of his own recruiting. He has gone 3-9 and 6-6 the last two regular seasons, despite having three straight stellar recruiting classes:

2006: #8 (Rivals), #5 (Scout)
2007: #8 (Rivals), #11 (Scout)
2008: #2 (Rivals and Scout)

Charlie Weis is an over-rated, pompous, egotistical fat-fuck.
