I had a conversation with a PFF 'data scientist' once. Told me that play action success rate and running the ball didn't go hand in hand. I tried to explain that, in a vacuum he may be correct, but grading plays like that over time would show trends to defensive coaches.

I then posted screenshots showing the difference in depth of drop between the Niners and Chiefs linebackers in the Superbowl. The same superbowl the Chiefs offense was getting their ass kicked until the Niners imploded. Take a guess which LB unit was more aggressive to ball action and which one stayed flat or dropped into throwing lanes faster?

Spoiler alert, it wasn't the KC backers who stayed back on their heels.

Edit: can a brother get an weakside zone call from under center against these lighter box counts? God damn.
