FWIW Demarcus Ware is very different that Carriker.

Carriker is a lot heavier and slower. He ran in the 4.8s at the combine.

He did test out well at the combine. Carriker did have a great 3 cone drill time and 20 yard shuttle time. Maybe not exactly like a player like Ware. Carriker couldn't play ROLB in the Steelers scheme but he could play LOLB if the Steelers ran the 3-4 hybrid like the Cowboys or Ravens, which is basically like a LE. Carriker can play 3-4 or 4-3 DE, so that's why I thought this pick made sense since the Steelers may gradually move to a 4-3 under Tomlin.

Why can't Carriker start on the other side? The Steelers desparately need a pass rusher. He fits that whether the Steelers play a 3-4 or 4-3. Carriker is big enough to play in the 3-4 and agile enough to play in the 4-3. If the Steelers go to more of a 3-4/4-3 hybrid then he could play the OLB position. Look at DeMarcus Ware for the Cowboys, he is an OLB.
If he is that disruptive of a pass rusher all the more reason to play him from right end, that way he can take advantage of the Left Tackle and get to the Quarterback's blind side. Though, notably it was after he moved from right end at Nebraska to what they term base end (LE) that Carriker's numbers improved. (The move to LE in 2005 also coincided with him being free of a nagging ankle injury that limited his 2004 season numbers).
Not voicing an opinion that he is a bad choice per se for the Steelers, though whether he ends up being a great pass rusher is open to debate.

EDIT - I guess the recent news about Joey Porter will come into play the 2nd round.

Didnt he do like 5 reps on the bench or something like that...

Still am dumbfounded that Jamaal Anderson is still on the board...

16 actually (according to FFLiveWire at least). At 250, I don't think he really projects as a DE anyway -- his best situation is prolly something like Wimbley last year.

OK so we have 1 vote for Anderson, 1 for Moss, and my vote for Dwayne Jarrett. 3 votes gets it.

I think they need more help on O than D.

Anderson, DE - 1
Moss, DE - 1
Jarrett, WR - 1

How about a trade with atlanta for our 7th round pick and we will take Jamaal Anderson...

Seriously tho I vote for Anderson...
