Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

After watching the Senior Bowl, I am of the conclusion that I would rather trade down and take Levi Brown than Thomas. I doubt the Brownies are moving down the ranks, so I'm really hoping they take Peterson. Having AP and Droughns would remind me of the Mack/Byner days. How sweet would it be to have 2 1,000 yard rushers? If Calvin Johnson drops, I wouldn't be shocked if they bite.

Brown had some struggles during the practices. He didn't do very well in the stunts. I don't think CJ is a huge need either.

CJ isn't a need, but Saban claims to be a "best talent available" drafter. If CJ is there, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that they take him. I'm becoming more convinced that it would be better to trade down than to take Thomas that high and I think OL is this team's greatest need. And BuckeyeMike is right, Levi's stock is on the rise. He is a beast.

Where do you go to see team's draft boards? I would think they'd like to keep that info private...

that was reported on ESPN Sunday night....that is what I'm using...

He went from the 2nd round to the middle of the first, but in that range it all depends on need anyway.

But I figure that given the lack of real no-brainer picks in the 1st round this year, anyone having a solid day like Levi Brown did have for himself WOULD help his stock a bit...

Since when is Saban drafting for an NFL team?

im kinda tired of hearing about Senior Bowl practices.....how much can you really learn from 3 days of practices when most of these guys have had no contact the last month? Scouts use the practices to get a feel for character and some abilities, but theres no better judge of talent than game tape......scouts who pick players based on combine numbers and 3 days worth of scrimmaging shouldn't have a job

I agree Levi Brown goes 1st round....I also agree I'd rather Brown than Joe Thomas.....Adrien Peterson is the choice for the Brownies IMO....how about Peterson in the first, Troy in the 2nd....I don't know how much we'd improve for next year, but it'd sure give Browns fans some excitement

brown was never a 2nd round pick. he was always in the mid to late 1st. he solidified himself as a top 15 pick.

billmac, it happens EVERY year. Troy Williamson, Fabian Washington, Vernon Davis, Michael Huff really helped himself with a 4.3 time, Bobby Carpenter did a lot last year too

Carpenter was a very frustrating linebacker to evaluate, because he no doubt has the size, strength, playing speed and athleticism to be a productive all-around linebacker, but he is not one now, and he is unlikely to ever become one. While he tests out like a warrior, his lack of instincts hinder his ability to play up to his off-field workouts -- he is often a beat late moving at the snap and lacks the explosiveness to catch up once he loses a step.

At this point I agree with everyone who would rather have Levi than Thomas. IMO, the best thing we could do is trade down and grab Okoye or Brown.

On the Jamarcus Russell front, I agree he is a better option than Brady -- by far.

For King's list... why not Branch? I'd be irritated if they picked him, but he does fill a need very well. This whole time your argument has been that we all just hate Quinn and Braylon because of ND/scUM -- yet you've got a number of people admitting one such player is a legit consideration.
It's also nice to see you come to terms with your Quinn fantasies.

Carpenter was coming off an injury last year so all his numbers were taken with a grain of salt....he was first round material based on his father playing for Parcells and Bobby's regular season performances at OSU....by the way he played decent towards the latter part of the year

But when you point out Fabien Washington, Michael Huff, and Vernon Davis I am in agreement with you.....Those guiys all significantly improved their draft stock at the combine....of them, have any really distinguished themselves as big-impact players? Not really....I think Vernon Davis will be solid......game breaker, not sure.........Fabien Washington also hasn't lived up to the hype....too early on Huff (same boat as Vernon Davis)....anyways, the Browns have drafted on combine results in several instances (Courtney Brown, Will Green, Gerrard Warren, Chaun Thompson) and hasn't worked out.......I'd feel much safer drafting proven college players rather than the flavor of the month after solid summer olympic numbers

Huff is going to be very good. He just really solidified himself when he ran a 4.3 time. Davis is a physical freak although he can't hold onto passes.

Also, Brown isn't as good as Thomas is. Why would we trade down for a lesser talent. Phil has said this is a good year to be in the top 5. Trading down is an ideal, it really isn't practical.

Of course Phil said it's a great year to be in the top-5 ... that's where he is. By this time, he surely knows how to play the media game. I'm not buying it though. This isn't a draft year that shows a ton of talent at the top IMO. It's pretty even.
As for Brown/Thomas, from what I saw in bowl games and last week -- I think they're on par with eachother. If so, it makes more sense to trade down (if we can), grab Levi and an extra day 1 pick.
