Official FIFA 2010 World Cup Discussion

Is anyone watching this shit about the French team on ESPN right now?

Apparently, hearing a guy say "sonofabitch" in a French accent was supposed to send me into convulsions. Bob Ley just issued another apology ten minutes later. Unfortunately, there probably are people out there who did freak out over it.

I thought it was great. Reminded me of Jean Paul on Seinfeld: "This sonofabitch is ice cold!"

Unbelievable. After the mugging we took in the box against Slovenia, Italy gets a PK and draws a yellow for a jersey tug followed by a screaming flop. What a weak call.

I must say, the Italians could all have acting careers after their playing days are over, with all of the dramatic flopping going on at every touch.

The PK ties it 1-1 at 30'.

Don't think the call was weak. But even if it was, definitely make-up for NZ's clear offsides on their goal.

The ball deflected off of the Italian defender's knee before reaching the Kiwi, so it wasn't an offsides. I can't help but hate the Italian side. They do more embellishing than any other side in the tournament. Certainly, on the play that precipitated their penalty kick and only goal, there was some shirt tugging going on. But no more than occurs on every single cross, corner kick, and set piece played into the box in every other game. If that is a PK, there should be about a dozen PKs every game.

No, I think Bob Ley and Chris Fowler and those guys that do like gameday sets for Soccer are all there. But the actual announcers are not. I was listening to the Fan the other day on my way home from work and they had a guy on air from Bristol who was telling them about it. This guy swore on his life. It was some funny shit.

They are in South Africa.

ESPN puts more kick into its World Cup - USATODAY.com

While ESPN announcers in 2006 called about 20 Cup games off TV monitors in ESPN's Bristol, Conn., studios, all ESPN game announcers will be on-site in South Africa.

Common Man and the Torg.

Don't listen. Ricordati doesn't know the first fucking thing about sports.

When I saw the scoreline continue to pile up, I kept thinking if the North Koreans were even allowed to defect like some Cubans do when they come to the United States to play a sporting event.

Their (N. Korea) hotel is guarded heavily, so it may be hard even if they wanted to.
