Per Birm, it's a greyshirt offer

Now he’ll have to sit and decide whether or not his lifelong dream, which would require him to delay going on scholarship in Columbus, is worth passing up an additional semester of paid college at places like Michigan State, UCLA or others.

“I’ve got a really tough decision to make,” Seibert told Lettermen Row. “I’m going to reach out to [Ohio State punter] Drue Chrisman and talk to him about grayshirting, because I know he did that too. That way I can get more of a feel for how that all works.”

For as many kids who get offered, ultimately accept, but never really contribute, I never understood not using a schollie on a kicker if you can bring in one of the top kids @ their position in their class, @ a position so critical in close games. I get it if you are bringing in just another kicker, but this kid could be a special weapon in the kicking game. Don't mess around, let him get away, and have him beat you in a close game down the road. Just offer the kid a full ride.

tOSU has done exceptionally well in the kicking games over the last several years, thank you Tress and Urb. Can probably count the games on both hands where the punter has pinned the opponent inside their 20 (or 10!). Some of you with better memories can probably remember when the Buckeyes won on a kick (or lost one), but I cannot seem to. However, that doesn't mean that the 'Daly' Bucks won't come to that impasse. Grab the kid, especially if he's an Ahia kid. And see if tOSU can get a PR and KR that can take it to the house. I've got sweaters older than the last time that happened. Anyway, balance Ryan, balance. Let's see if our special teams coach can sway him.....Go Bucks!

Pretty much had the same thoughts and just hadn’t posted them. It’s one scholarship that won’t go to a 3rd/4th stringer at some other position. And far more valuable.

While I agree with the notion that we should have a couple of ships for kickers, this is a grey shirt offer, not walk-on. He’ll pay for one semester to help increase a class size by one. Then go of ship for winter semester.

1974. Not 1, but 4 FGs by Tom Klaban, coupled with Mike Lantry missing wide left with 18 seconds left. 12-10 Good Guys.
It was a glorious time carrying the goal posts down High Street.

But why risk disrespecting a game changer by making him pay a semester just to increase the class by one? Just take one less player somewhere else. No matter how good all of the kids are that are being recruited, inevitably, one of these kids will be at the end of the depth chart and not on the field. Special teams/best kickers in the country wins games.
