Where did he bash the team?

Let's go back to one of his first posts to LJB, shall we?

Wow..that was amazing...ly weak. What you need to do is put down the pipe you're smoking.

Fallacy #1: This is called an ad hominem. It's an attempt to ridicule the person who made a statement in order to show superiority.

tbone said:
Please see any of the last few games that didn't involve teams that were I-aa or from the MAC.

Fallacy #2: This is called a strawman argument. This statement attempts to set up the argument that we haven't played anybody of renown in recent attempts. This fails to mention the other top 25 teams that we have played in the last two years. Do I need to go through a list for you. This is also a veiled bash of our team.

tbone said:
Our talent, skill players, etc are some of the best in the nation, no doubt. But then why does it seem that we are always the second rate team on the field when we have played anyone outside the B10.

Overt Bash no. 1 of the players.

tbone said:
Please, you are blind if you think that we have not been outcoached all over the field.

Overt Bash no. 1 of the coaches.

tbone said:
I am not calling for Tressel's head. In all actuality, I'm asking for him to use his head, or smack his assistants in the head.

Overt Bash no. 2 of the coaches.

tbone said:
Coach Carrol, Coach Myer, Coach Miles all sounded as if they had just played a high school team as far as preparation goes in the event that they saw our plays coming weeks before the game started!!

Overt Bash no. 3 of the coaches. Furthermore, this was never stated nor inferred by the coaches mentioned.

tbone said:
When I say imaginitive play calling, I'm not asking for a double-reverse-wr pass. I actually think we should try doing something than repeatedly running our 175 lbs backs between the tackles of an overrated senior line. Yes, it was a true freshman's first day, and a good one at that, however, how do you help someone by running the ball up the middle 3 times in a row then trying to complete a long pass or punting....ass. Oh, and questioning whether you should play Saine, or Small, or Posey et al...what have they done to make me think they deserve to play?? Well that's just it IDIOT, we don't ever try and run packages to our skill players...and in case you haven't noticed, we haven't seen our wide receivers get any kind of separation or have any major effect on a game because the only pass we can throw is a "jump ball" or a 50 yd bomb.

Yet another ad hominem.

tbone said:
I seem to remember someone named GONZO making a living on 5 yd slant routes (haven't seen one of those in a year ). You win with fundamentals...WOW.. what an original idea, did you just make that up?? Hold on, I just made some cookies for you... The problem is that FUNDAMENTALS will not help you move the ball down the field when they have 8 in the box and we are trying to run the ball up the middle every play, or doing something "FLASHY" like a 'nobody-saw-this-coming' quarterback sneak out of a five wide package.... I'm starting to think you must be one of our coordinators...Mr Bollman is that you??

Bash no. 4 of the coatches.

How about respect for other people's opinions rather than if you do not post exactly what everybody else does, then go elsewhere.

Respect is earned. When coming into someone else's house, do you as a respectful visitor hurl insults at the people or the way the people operate? I dare say that a respectful person does NOT.

nwbuckeye said:
I have seen namecalling galore here and most of it is aimed at tbone, not the other way around; is that being respectful?

Then I suggest you re-read his post I copied above.

nwbuckeye said:
So if you want to post something controversial (in your opinion at least) you may as well go elsewhere; that is the message that I keep hearing here.

Controversial? Depends on the context and the presentation. Disagreements abound and they can be done respectfully. That is the distinction. For those who can't or won't fathom the distinction; then their attendance needn't be.

Nice....agree that Herron is the number 2 back. I think he looks like he is running harder every game. He is still young and I think if his vision improves he could be a great one... only thing that concerns me with him is that he can't make anyone miss. I would substitute Mo Wells for Herron on KR's.

I would try any number of different players on kick returns until someone shows thay can do it right.

Robo and Hartline on punt returns over Small? No thanks. Maybe small was fumbling in practice. If he's back in the doghouse, then Tressel better get him out and nail the door shut.

What style plays should be run for Saine? He can't even average 20 yards on kickoff returns which is supposed to be the place to show your speed. He hasn't done one thing since his injury last year. To me, he's just a bigger verion of Mo Wells: can't break tackles.

I know you're not talking to me, but I'd like to see us line him up at TE and spread the field with some WRs.. he'd likely be matched up against a LB, and even if he's matched up with a safety, that's going to leave one safety deep and give us the opportunity to make a big play with someone else.

He's not only a fast RB, he has great hands and they are under-utilized. I loved the way he was used against LSU.

Seriously.. Anyone know what is up with Small?? Just seems odd to bring him in for an ill advised reverse and then never see him again... Doesn't make sense, something must be going on behind the scenes.

Anyone know why Donald Washington is creditied with 2 kickoffs in the first half on the official site? I know the first 2 kickoffs were shitty but D Washington? Sure, the same number as AP, but shouldn't the official team site know or did DW really kick off?

Has to be number confusion...I don't see this being a wrinkle that would really pan-out...

Tough to break a return, regardless of your speed, when the opposing gunners are already inside your 30 yard line when you field the ball.

Double numbers.

D Wash and Pettrey both wear #20.

Very late post game thoughts (college keeps a kid busy):

QB: Wow is all I have to say. I expected Terrelle to do alright, don't get me wrong, but 4 TD's? In the air? TP showed amazing pocket presence and seemed to go through his progressions pretty well. Progressions will be a constant work in progress (no pun intended) but I was surprised with his decision making as well. He made a lot of good decisions in big situations...this is just a sign of a champion. Terrelle Pryor is a winner and will come through to the best of his abilities when the going gets tough. However, the huge loss that took us out of field goal range lost us points and netted him his first INT. Also, missing Robo deep hurt. Other than that, I oculdn't be any more excited about Pryor. To be completely honest, I don't know how excited about this season I would have been if Pryor wasn't playing. He is flat out exciting and a great leader. The offense plays better with him in there...keep him in.
RB: Great game for Boom Herron. He isn't going to break off a homerun, but he is solid between the tackles and gets the job done. Saine...get him healthy. I think he needs to focus on rehab because he just isn't the same player he was last year. In the mean time, get MoWells some reps and I wouldn't mind seeing Flash back there. I really think he could be that homerun threat we need. Even though we are improving here, we are still missing Beanie here.
FB: Give Brandon Smith some love here...he is playing well and I'm glad he stuck it out here. He has kept his nose clean, has worked hard, and is benefiting from it.
WR: Mixed review for me here. I thought we played a good game here. Robo and Hartline made some really nice grabs, got open, and made the big plays. Perhaps a big problem was Boeckman not seeing the open man downfield? However, I don't think so all the time. Terrelle was keeping plays alive for awhile sometimes and guys weren't getting open. Also, I still think we need to step up our blocking here. Troy's WR's blocked well (granted that is their offense's necessity to work). I've been watching Missouri, Texas, Florida, OU, etc. and they all have helped spring some big plays. My big concern though is no Ray Small...discipline? He was the lone brightspot in the first 3 weeks at WR and now he is pulled? I still want to see more Posey and Flash by the way. We need more consistency but overall, I liked what I saw.
TE: Great play here. I felt the TE's blocked well and Nicol had one heck of a catch to spark our first TD. Very excited for Rory.
OL: Watching Brewster was a pleasure. Brewster is going to be a star, mark it down if you haven't already. He seemed to know exactly what was going on. J.B. Shugarts looked great once again while he was in. Cordle had a pretty good debut at guard from what I saw. I will go back through and watch this unit more carefully but overall, I thought we looked much improved.
DE: Here comes my daggers...we look pathetic at DE. Thad Gibson was raved about, as well as Wilson (by myself admittedly)...yet, how many sacks do we have? I'm convinced Cameron Heyward won't log a sack this year...is it me or has he slowed down considerably since last year? It seems like he is in a big sophmore slump. Thad Gibson is having trouble rushing the QB and when he does, he can't break down and make the play. Wilson played the best of the 3 imo but I really thought he would break out this year. I know Heacock made some changes but I don't know how much it's going to help us. We really have some work to do here.
DT: I honestly can't delve into the DT play much without bashing. Worthington played alright imo. Other than that, we know what we got right here and it likely won't change.
LB: Hard to say much here. The spread really doesn't glorify the LB's that much. I thought overall our play was subpar here. We are missing tackles left and right...so on second thought, our play here is poor. Why it is poor is because we were supposed to be one of the best units in the country with JL, Freeman, and Homan. We haven't showed as such. We have flashes but no consistency.
DB: I thought we played pretty well here. I was really embarassed on that TD pass on our tackling though. However, Coleman made two HUGE plays here and really helped the performance of our secondary. Next is Hines...he is a stud. He really played his role so well and then some...I was definetly stoked about Jermale's play. Chekwa has that corner spot locked down...at first I thought DWash would come right back in but Chekwa is playing so well, there is no way he will get his spot back if Chimdi keeps playing like that. Overall, I thought the DB's were a lone bright spot on our defense for the second week in a row.
Special Teams: No idea what we are doing on kick return. The blocking doesn't appear to be there, but Saine seems to be hurt and Herron doesn't seem like the type of guy that's going to break one lose. MoWells I can see. Small, Posey, Flash...all good candidates imo. Trapasso still doesn't seem to be improving much. Other than that we just had some PAT's, so pretty poor performance again imo.
Coaching: Not so bad this week. First off, hats off to Coach Tressel. You have to appreciate how hard it had to be on him to bench Boeckman for Pryor. However, he knew Terrelle gave us the best shot at winning and he went with it. Giving Brewster the start took some guts. He has set forth a change in the offense when it was needed and again, hats off. Now we need to address this defense and we'll be set. Overall, I thought this was a strongpoint.
Overall: We are definetly moving forward after the USC game. However, we need to keep making changes when they need to be made. We have begun to do that and it's a perfect time to continue next week with Minnesota. I like our upside for finishing out the season strong.

Tale of the tape, Troy

Man, I have a lot I could write this week, I'll try and keep it brief.
First a few housekeeping notes:
-- Troy's vaunted hurry-up attack ran 66 plays against OSU. Two weeks earlier, Ohio ran 65. Southern Cal ran 62. What was the big deal?
-- Against USC (I'm late on this), DE Nathan Williams became the 8th true freshman to play, out of a class of 19. At this point, you would expect the other 11 to redshirt, unless injuries strike. Those 11 would be: Ben Buchanan, Nic DiLillo, Zach Domicone, Garrett Goebel, Travis Howard, Ohrian Johnson, Jermil Martin, Willie Mobley, Jake Stoneburner, Andrew Sweat and Keith Wells.
OK, Troy observations:
-- The defense played better than I thought initially. Yes, I knew holding Troy to 10 points was good, but I felt like they missed a lot of tackles and got pushed around some up front. They did miss tackles on the TD play. But overall, it was a pretty good effort, considering most of the time, OSU had only 4 or 5 defenders in the box. That leaves you vulnerable to runs up the middle. One impressive series came when Troy drove to the OSU 4-yard line, first and goal, trailing 7-0. On first down, James Laurinaitis sacked Jamie Hampton. On third down, Cameron Heyward fought through a double team to limit Hampton to three yards on a draw, and Troy settled for a field goal. On another occasion, Thaddeus Gibson sacked Hampton, and then Doug Worthington absolutely corralled DuJuan Harris on a shovel pass for a loss that forced a punt.
