Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

So what's the answer with our O and D lines??? We saw the same thing against UF and LSU and yet here we are two seasons later seeing the same problems with the line. I know it's not that we don't have the talent....so what is it? Is it coaching?

I still LOVE this team!!!!! :oh:

In Tressel We Trust

Okay guys, we got our butts handed to us tonight by SoCal, but keep your heads up. Lets not get carried away and start pointing fingers at certain coaches or players or even players. Only fingers we can point to is USC and say "Good game, you brought everything you had."

In Tressel we trust folks and that is here to stay. I remember in 2005 when Texas took us down. That was OUR year! That was the year Smith was to break out and do something amazing - well he did, and so did the team. That year OSU went on to become Big Ten champs, beat Notre Dame in a BCS Bowl game and most importantly - beat Michigan! When the final seconds ticked off the scoreboard in 05, we thought life was over, we were embarrassed as fans and were unaware that the Bucks would go on to beat Michigan 3 times in a row, go to 2 straight NC games (3 straight BCS games) and win the conference 3 straight years. Lets remember those same thoughts tonight and also think god we arent:

Michigan 1-2
UCLA - got pounded by BYU 0-59
Notre Dame - No explanations needed here
Minnesota
Indiana
or even Northwestern

We are THE Ohio State University. We have much to be grateful for. You think guys like Horvath, Cassidy, Tatum, or Woody let one game define them for an entire season? Hell no! We are the baddest mothers in the midwest! Lets show em who we are for the rest of the season.

As fans lets be classy, lets take for what it is and lets support the team in any future decisions.

Also, let me put this into a real-world perspective. We are a country at war. We have Soldiers, Airmen and Marines fighting as we speak. They are fighting so that we can have the choice to win or lose a football game. There are many families that have lost more than a game tonight, they lost their houses and lives with the recent hurricanes. Also, no players or coaches were injured tonight. We played safe and that is very critical. We played as best as we could with what we could. Keep your heads up fellas.

Go Bucks! Bring on the Big Ten....

In Tressel We Trust! :oh:

Just came home from work. Right when I entered I couldn't see the score but I saw Corp was in the game and my heart sunk. I never thought it would be this bad. I feel bad for the team.

Congrats to USC and the nice USC fans on this board.

Earlier this week when I heard Beanie was out.........I immediatley told a couple friends, "Ok, I give USC 28 points". They looked at me like I was crazy. There are buckeye fans who are just sick with buckeye everything, and there are buckeye fans who are realists. I knew we would take a thumping tonight. Because I knew that, I am not feeling near as bad as half the people on this board, or any board. SC should be playing in the NFL, where they are actually allowed to pay players

USC is the real deal. Ohio State is still no slouch. Yes they got stomped but USC doesn't play in the Big Ten, and although the National Title hope is gone... A Big Ten championship, a victory against Michigan, and a potential Rose Bowl are all possibilities still. All of which are VERY VERY manageable possibilities. I think there is no other time than now to let Terrelle Pryor shine but let's let this sink in a bit for Tressell and staff and see what they have to say.

This is the biggest problem with the board right now. Most people were blind-sided by this.

Having seen last week's game in person; I knew damn well that this was a distinct possibility.

Fortunately, I have enough going on in my own life that the accomplishments of 20-year-olds is of relatively little importance. For those of you who don't, please stop advertising your need to get a life. Or at least do it elsewhere.

THe difference is that I thought OSU came out flat against OU because they were looking ahead and was happy that the DL got penetration and got to the QB.

CAn't say anyhting though. Just didn't see this happening. Just a shame.

And I'm trying not to get too upset over this loss. Usually I do get too upset, but these past few seasons have made me think about how much these games really mean. I get so upset, but really there's nothing I can do and just hhope for the best. Might sound dumb, but it helps a little bit.

Good news. The sun is still coming up in Iraq.

This sucks, but frankly, it's not totally unexpected. There's an underlying problem here that goes beyond talent. The last three debacles against teams with equal to better talent is that our lines get manhandled and there are huge holes in the defense. I'm not a great X & O's guy, but I can see it. Something needs to be done in that area if we are gonna make the most of the talent being brought in. All criticism is totally deserved from the national media until they are shut up. I'm just gonna tune it out for now because it's gonna be a massive onslaught.

Bright spot: Terrelle Pryor is gonna be a special player. I've been against calling for him, but I can't deny it anymore. Todd Boeckman just is not that good of a big time colege QB. It really does pain me to say that, but after watching this, it's just too obvious. I'm all aboard the Pryor train right now. :(

Go Bucks.

Unfortunately, you're right. :(

We can still win the Big Ten and earn a BCS bid so there's a LOT to play for, but the 3 blowouts in 20 months have looked the same in many ways. We need to get better to compete with the elite teams. That's just the reality of the situation at this point.

The fact that we're whining about it is a BIGGER problem.

Whatever man. I'm not raining down hate like some shameful mo-foes around here. I love me some buckeyes. Regardless of my team affiliations or my thoughts on whatever. What Pete did there is classless. Period. I'm not whining. He can do whatever the fuck he wants, but I'm gonna scream, that is some classless play calling. Me and Ray Small representing here.

It's 5:30am and I have to work today. So, here is my final thought.

Tonight was about confidence. We didn't have it without Beanie.

I am incredibly proud of the team. I think that before we bust Todd, we have to see this offense as a unit. It's hard for a pocket passer to get into rhythm when you are running for your life. My fear is that Todd has taken a deeper hit than the physical abuse he took.

Next week, this team needs to be able to open up. Forget not showing the playbook. We need confidence.
