Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

I didnt expect Ohio State to move the ball this well, lots of holes and time for Boeckman.

Thanks, UT

Personal bias aside, I really am enjoying the contrast between the two teams.

It's infuriating when your team trails, but still notable that two polar opposites can have such similar success.

I wish our boys had just a bit more of that looseness and killer instinct, though :)

As bad as the scoreboard indicates, this doesn't feel at all like halftime of UF or LSU. We got a shot here. SC has done nothing to dictate this game, and they are not in control. I'd like Todd to take some shots downfield in the second half and have a few more runs for Pryor. Get him in there for a series even. Defensively, our Ends aren't getting off their blocks. That's a problem because SC's backs are getting to the outside. Clamp down on that, play with more intensity. We'll be in this game til the end. :osu:
I don't like how effective USC has been running the ball. That is the one thing that I think is keeping them in control of the game. We need to control the second half like we did early in the first quarter.

Ban my drunk ass if you want.....Tressel's, or the OC's lack of adjustmants has cost us this game. Pryor has outperformed Boeckman, out descisioned him, and out played him.... With the same coaching staff I don't see us being the elite of the elite like we should be ever.

Win or lose, we should all be proud of these guys. Sure, there have been questionable penalties and no-calls, and we've made some mental errors, but the future is still very bright. If we play like this the rest of the year we have a lot to look forward to. Sure, the NC might not be in the cards but it's not a total loss and it's still very very early. Oh, and that Pryor guy is going to be VERY special. His leadership skills alone impress me

Definitely a frustrating first half, as I believe we are beating ourselves right now. Keeping that in mind, I don't think we're out of this game at all. I like what I see from Pryor and would like to see A LOT more of him in the 2nd half. Cut back on the stupid penalties and we are in this game. Plenty of time to go and no reason to be hanging our heads.

LETS GO BUCKS!!!

You know, other than the one gaffe by Boone, the blocking hasn't been as bad as I expected (given the Ohio performance). The defensive line, however, is getting pushed all over the field. There were more than a few plays where 3 or 4 o-lineman were just releasing up field and putting hats on linebackers. There's no way you're going to stop the run if you are getting pushed around like that. There's also no appreciable pass rush right now, which isn't helping.

The run game is going about as well as you could expect with no Beanie. The offense is suffering from a huge number of mistakes and penalties. A couple of dropped passes, things like that.

That being said, unless the defensive line can step it up this is going to get really out of hand. USC is converting 3rd and 15 by running draw plays because our lineman can't consistently disrupt the run.

We can still win this game. Hardest part about that is get the winning mindset back. We couldn't do that in the title games, but did against Wisc. last year. Beanie please suit up, Pryor please play.

We can still do this, just a few lucky breaks, even officiating, and turnovers.

Look, JMHO so take it for what it is worht (nothing really) but if tOSU is going to go down, lets abandon this zone read and react defense and start attacking. They very well may lose today, but let the other team feel it for a few weeks. Go and fucking hit somebody!

I agree and also with some other posts.

OSU is moving hte ball much better than I imagined, but they are not getting the important points in the endzone. This USC offense is phenominal and OSU needs to get touchdowns whenever they can.

Get rid of penalties, focus, and the Buckeyes stilll have a shot.

We've been moving the ball on the Trojans all game.
Till the red zone. Which is where we see ... mistakes.

No more mistakes and we get some points.
Amen

We need a good stand on D

Well, we had two in a row at the end of the half, that's a start.

and a TD to start the half.

They get the ball first, so certainly - D stands tall, then the scoring drive.

Let them get cocky in the locker room. These seniors came back to win an NC and we're not going down easily.
Hope you're right about that. I think you are and the scoreline is presently inflated.

I dont want it to sound like an excuse, but clearly with Beanie Wells in the game we're looking different on the scoreboard. Two times inside the redzone and 3 points? Not with Wells in the game.

Alas, it was not to be for him today so we've got to ride the horses we have in the stable. I'd like to see more of Pryor and Robiskie the second half and more of Laurinaitis not 6 yards down field. Attack, attack attack!

I'm not TB bashing so it would be nice if I didnt get banned. But from what I have seen so far the offense looks best under Pryor. The team seems more pumped up and we get first downs. I hope playing Pryor more is one of our half time adjustments. D line is getting handled when they want to run and when they pass we are not getting enough pressure. I love the Buckeyes and Tressel and all that ish but so far USC has handled our defensive up front and IMHO we would be better off using Pryor more often on offensive.

I'm excited about the second half and cant wait to see what happens.

If, If, If.

The officials are what they are. We must take what we can get.

The mistakes that have happened, have happened. We must not repeat them.

The opportunity remains. The desire remains. The team is refocusing on their goals, reflecting on the first half, and I fully expect them to come out fired up and ready to assert their will in the second half.

GO BUCKS.
