Game Thread Ohio State 37, Penn State 17 (final)

History says otherwise. The crowd was an enormous factor in '05 and the rain evened the playing field for most of the game last season. If it does indeed rain, coupled with a very hostile crowd, this will be a very difficult game. Bank on it. I'm not saying we can't win, but I don't want any other factors favoring a team that already historically plays us very hard.

PSU was a totally different team in '05. They had a great offense & defense. If we score first and stop PSU on their first few possessions, the crowd will be taken out of the game.

True, but not all that different from '06 when they played us tight for 4+ quarters on a sloppy field in the shoe. I'm just saying don't chalk this up as a sure thing...state penn always plays us tough. If we rattle Morelli (which ain't hard to do) we will be in good shape. Our D will take care of buisness, we just need TB to limit mistakes and manage the game which isn't always easy in Happy Valley.

I think it will be easier to do for him, compared to 05 & 06, due to the fact that they (PSU) aren't as strong on defense. I'm sure we'll see conservative play to start, by handing the ball off to Beanie on 1st & 2nd downs, and then when PSU starts to creep up to stop the run, he'll go over the top on a play action fake for 6.

I agree TB is the key to us winning this game. We must play with the fewest Turnovers as possible. Our defense is the most reliable unit of this team and I expect them to get it done. My only worry is our offense, and I think they will come through.

I'm very confident they'll come through. This team hasn't forgotten that game in 05 (those of them that are left). Tressel & the boys will be ready for this one. I guarantee it.

Proud to share your pessimism!

Honestly, I think we have a great shot to win. But I don't buy the argument that this PSU team is a lot worse than the one that beat us in '05. In '05, Hunter barely went over the 1000 yd mark for PSU, their leading WRs were Butler, Norwood and Williams, who are by the way, all still here. The key is that they no longer had Robinson on offense. But he wasn't the best passer out there either.

You can make the argument that Poz was better than either Connor or Lee, but by how much? To me, their DL is as athletic in generating pressure. Their DBs aren't that good, but to capitalize, we must be very proficient in pass-protection, since Boeckman is a pocket passer, and if our pass-protection doesn't work out too well, be able to dump the ball short. We have been great with the long ball this season, but our ability to move the ball with the intermediate and short range game will be tested, especially if either: Beanie gets dinged up or in the case of incremental weather.

Again, very winnable game, but this is not going to be a piece of cake guys.

Robinson was also a dual threat.....you're not getting that with Morelli. If he drops back, you know what's coming. Bottom line is...if we don't turn the ball over, we win. We're going to see plenty of Beanie and that always favors the Bucks.

Also in the 06 game, Smith only ran the ball 3 times for 18 yards and one of those rushes was for 17 yards. He ran so much less in 06 compared to 05. Anywho, I'm very confident that tOSU will come away with a win.
