Game Thread Ohio State 58, Northwestern 7 (final)

NU ball.

1st: give left for a loss. didn't somebody say something about not trying to get to the edge against our D?

2nd: Spitler with a nice hit for another loss.

3rd: complete for a first. Bacher got hit again. that guy is pretty tough.

1st: mis-communication. Barrow with the stop on the QB keeper.

2nd: whoa. NU with a run left for positive yards.

3rd: complete for a first.

1st: inside give. the backs collided. gain of a couple.

2nd: QB keeper on the option for a few.

3rd: crap. option left for the first. Jam-O with the stop. that's the first time that NU has gained yardage outside.

1st: give right. blown up by big #97.

2nd: draw for a short gain. Barrow on the stop.

3rd: deep ball incomplete. going for the endzone. coverage was there. pass OOB.

Great win. I'm still saying that this could be one of the nastiest defenses to play at OSU over the past 20 years.

Robo is quickly becoming one of the best receivers in the country. I truly believe that he will finish the season very high on the list of all time greats.

My game impressions

A) Before beanie went down he was really starting to find his groove and I hope that this doesn't affect the way his rythme has been going as of late. Minnesota is god awful and I hope we give beanie a break next week.

B) The kickoff coverage team should take our defense out for dinner after this one or atleast apologize because there was no way NW was scoring on us today.

C) Ray Small's impact was HUGE today. His kickoff returns, punt returns, and presence on offense really tilted the field position battle today (Defense had more to do with is but still).

D) Todd looked very comfortable back there throwing the ball and besides his pick which could've been another TD he played very well today.

E) The running game just isn't the same without Beanie. I don't know why Beanie is so much more affective than Mo Wells but our running game without Beanie looked rather sad (walk ons and 2nd string line have much to do with is also)

Overall I'm very pleased with this game and I'm happy we won but It almost feels like a loss with Beanie not being able to finish the game. We won't need him the next two weeks against Minnesota/KSU but we need him big time for Purdue and it's crucial to this team to have him 100 percent for the year because our security blanket (Saine) is also out. Maybe this means we'll see a lot more passing the next couple weeks though? Who knows.

Our team is the best in the big ten.. Our defense is un-real and if not for that kickoff return we're looking at 5.5 points per game! This defense is fast, very physical, plays the run, plays the pass, has been forcing turnovers as of late, and is YOUNG. This team will be somethin special if they stick around for next year! Heck we'd have two shut outs so far if not for our offense/kick off coverage.. And the first game of the year we gave them points as well.. This defense is playing lights out and I think we give LSU a run for their money, but we'll see for sure in 3 weeks @ Purdue.

GO BUCKS, and way to take care of business!

Unfortunately the Purdue game is right after Minnesota, not after Kent State, so if Beanie's not ready soon we could be hurting for Purdue.

Game played out basically the way I thought, being over early. Boeckman looks better every week, more comfortable and relaxed in the pocket. Robo reminded me a lot of Santonio today. I really like this team, especially the defense. Vernon was a wrecking machine. Well done guys, now waiting for grad21 to tell me what all they did wrong and bring me back down.

They didn't exactly dominate Duke statistically, but they did outproduce them my a significant margin in both yards and first downs.

Silly mistakes by both players and the coaching staff cost them that game.

Speaking of silly, I know how it sounds to say it; but Northwestern was caught looking ahead. They did not look like their heads were in the game at all.

Normally, after a team gets caught looking ahead they go out and play well for at least a quarter or a half. This kind of loss can be utterly demoralizing though.

And with Tressel playing on the '04 angle in the locker room right after the UW game, it is very doubtful that the Buckeyes are going to be flat.

I think this one will get ugly fast and stays ugly until the clock strikes zero.

I did expect NW to fold up a little more than they actually did though. Their defense actually kept their heads in the game well enough to stop our 2nd/3rd string offense when we were being predictable, and I didn't know if they would be able to do that.

It's just as well though. Jim Tressel finally has a 50-point+ margin of victory on his resume

I just heard JT say that Saine might be out for only one more game, so that's good news.
