Ohio State 79, #21 Syracuse 65 (Final)

cuse fan

i am very excited about this game and honestly think it could go either way. without a doubt you guys have an advantage in size but i think our team makes up for that with athleticism as this is an extremely atheltic team. All in all I do give us a little edge in the matchup and I will tell you why. I would think the cuse should play m2m

Greene Vs. Kofuos - I think that this is an extremely entertaining matchup here as both are good inside outside players. I give the egde to Kofous on the inside but i give Donte the edge on the outside as he has much more athletisism and is a dead-eye shooter at 6'11". I think that they will take care of each other

Arinza Vs. Hunter - I dont think either will be able to stop the other on defense. Onukau should be able to push Hunter around but Hunter should be able to block Arinze's shot as he is a better leaper. I give the edge to Arinze in rebounded from what i have seen but could be wrong.

Your Guards Vs. Our Guards- I think this is where you will see the biggest contrast in styles of the two teams and where the outcome will probably come from. Your guards seem to be much bigger and steadier than ours but our three guards are extremely athletic and love to create their own shots with penetration. Although they are not that big, they are athletic. Flynn has great quickness and floor vision and a 42" vertical that allows him to finish. Devo can penetrate like no other and is the best finisher I have seen with either hand in a long time. He is also an underrated athlete as he has a 41.5" vertical which you wouldnt expect. And Paul is just a freak. he is averaging 14 rebounds a game for a 6'4" guy. however he does have a 7' wing span and i have heard a vertical anywhere from 42"-46" so he should be able to stop lighty's penetration hopefully.

good luck guys. i know i talked a lot more about cuse's guys but thats cause i dont know much about your teams players. hope its a good game with no injuries.

We tell people we want other fans to come here then we basically egg them on until we can label them as trolls...

drysdale, thanks for your input...always great to get some perspective from the other side. I agree that the guard matchup should be a great one. We all hope it is a good game too and hope everyone comes away healthy.

OSU will be in a zone, most likely, for much of the game. Green flashing to the middle is what worries me...and his ability to step outside on the wing and knockdown a 3. Twig/Hunter/Lighty/etc. will have to be rotating extremely quickly tonight.

Thanks for the quality post.

It is nice to know that all opponents' posters don't think that their teams will give The Ohio State University a spanking.:)

From what I have seen of Flynn, he seems like a typical freshman. He might go off on us or you might have a horrible game.

Thanks for not trying to analyze our team and I respect your opinion.

Welcome to BP, 'Cuse!

The Koufos/Greene match up should be a good one. They're gonna have to play pretty physical to take Kosta outta his game. I'd like to see how we match up with Onukau on D. This is one of those games where Lauderdale ought to see more minutes than he would normally. Harris is one I wish we had landed. Lighty's gonna have to be the difference maker for us in the middle of that zone and we're gonna be tested like we haven't been yet this year down low. If he does really well and our big men can hold theirs to hard shots and rebound well (for a change), I think we stand a good shot of winning this one. Their guards are gonna be their x-factor, I'm thinking. This is their chance to make a big name for themselves nationally and it sounds like they have the talent, particularly this Flynn fellow I keep hearing about.

I don't know where this comes from. Flynn has yet to have even a bad game, let alone a horrible one.

"horrible" might have been a bad choice of words and for that I apologize. In the last game that I saw him play in the Dome, he was not just that impressive to me but that was only one game. I guess my point was that he is still a freshman.

No offense, dysdale, because your point that Syracuse is more athletic than the Bucks is valid, but I get so tired of hearing about "verticals." It is a joke. During the Illinois football game, they interviewed Jordan's kid, and he told the interviewee that he increased his vert from 42 to 46 ". You say that Syracuse has three guys going over 40. Every year I hear those numbers thrown around. And every year on ESPN Insider I scour the combine numbers to see who is actually leaping out of the gym.

J.R. Smith (Nugget) was rumored to have a 46" vertical. He got 36". In fact, every year there are about a total of THREE NBA prospects who ever eclipse the 40-inch barrier. The high is usually about 42 by someone like Nate Robinson.

Anyway, Syracuse is very athletic and this will be a fun game for both teams. Jamar Butler is probably the key to a Buckeye victory.

there is no way that an average of about 3 players a year have a vertical of over 40 inches. there is definalty more than that. and you do not have to believe me about their verticals i am just going by what websites and papers say and my own personal experience. either way vertical leaps are without a doubt the best way to gauge a persons agilty and explosivness and i was reinforcing the fact that syracuse has explosive penatrating guards by showing you some facts with the measured vertical leaps.

Explosiveness, yes. Agility, no. Agility is not defined at all by leaping ability. Agility is side-to-side speed and quickness.
