Game Thread Ohio State at Penn State, 10/22/16, 8:00pm ET ABC/WatchESPN

Ditch the scrublord OC. Get A REAL OC. Get your OL coach out of the booth. Let him actually coach his unit. Get a new WR coach. Get a new QB coach.

Troubleshooting 101: Figure out what the common link is between the symptoms of the jet.

Passing game broken? Who's the coach? Beck. How has the passing game been with him running it? Lackluster. Ok, noted. How was it before him? National Championship.

How's effective are the plays that are called? Transparent and inconsistent.

How's the relationship between QB and WR? Awkward, offbeat, and almost non-existent. Any major issues with WR play? Young and inexperienced, something a WR coach can't change or adjust. Who's the QB coach? Beck.

Simple troubleshooting leads all roads back to Beck.

(Also, Ed no longer coaches the Line. He's the TE coach. We pay Greg Studrawa to coach the line now.)

I am sorry, but I am unwilling to accept the fact that once per season, the offensive staff is just sort of, you know, bound to get outcoached and fall flat out on its face when it comes to execution.

We haven't developed a consistent intermediate pass game since, I don't know. We refuse to run an option out of any formation other than shot gun; we can't pass block despite a bevy of talent on the offensive line; JT has NOT progressed much as a passer. I dunno. I can't wrap my head around Samual getting two carries either.

I remember reading somewhere that Urban doesn't believe in firing assistants... I hope it was just a tongue in cheek comment because we need a change. Yeah, I'm intoxicated and my blood is still boiling but this [Mark May] is unbelievable. Goodnight and go Bucks!
He is not going to fire himself

You're right, but that Sparty team was miles better than this PSU trash.

i think this is the absolute truth that really isn't being stated...yes, we sucked. yes, the oline was treated like a step child. yes the the OC's were embarrassing (agia
Ever get the feeling we could just copy and paste these discussions from the, well, there's a list, right?

From: The MSU B1G title game, the Clemson bowl game, the VA Tech game, the MSU in the Shoe game. Seems like the same basic questions are always there, and only the names change to protect the culpable.

Not entirely, no. The OSU offense since the departure of Herman is a dumpster fire that occasionally gets it right far less than it shits the bed. In the B1G title game and Clemson Bowl game they put points on the board but couldn't stop anyone.
VT was the only game Herman was a part of where they have looked like shit and that was corrected. Since game 2 of 2015 they have sucked. They have been predictable. They have not done anything week in and week out that exudes confidence that momentum is rolling. Last night wa embarrassing and I just don't have the confidence that they are going to get it right until Beck and Warriner are re-assigned or move on.
I know I sound like a broken record but I still cannot understand how all this talent can look so inept every damn week. either we put too much stock in recruiting rankings or the coaching has been terrible. And since Bama is offering these kids, too, I am going to say the coaching blows. Unfortunately that is nothing that can be fixed until after the lesson. But status quo cannot be allowed come January.

Guy [Weber] averages 6.5 yards a carry. Maybe he needs the ball more.
After last night's game, Weber's average is down to 5.9 yards per carry.

Here is Weber's production on a game-by-game basis:

BGSU: 19 carries, 136 yards, 7.2 average
Tulsa: 17 carries, 92 yards, 5.8 average
Oklahoma: 18 carries, 123 yards, 6.8 average
Rutgers: 14 carries, 144 yards, 10.3 average
Indiana: 15 carries, 71 yards, 4.7 average
Wisconsin: 11 carries, 46 yards, 4.2 average
Penn State: 21 carries, 71 yards, 3.4 average

In his last three games, Weber has 47 carries, 188 yards, 4.0 average. Not good, and not worthy of more carries.

Last night seemed like a good time to put down the computer. For me, the offensive woes start where football problems often start - the line. Too many times our backs are getting hit in the backfield, and JT is running for his life on too many pass attempts as well. Dominate up front and "play calling" looks a lot better, too.

Someone might have already brought this up, but where is Raekwon Mcmillan? He's not making any impact plays. I'm sure his tackle numbers are up but he hasn't had the kind of impact that his position and reputation requires. After watching Wisconsin's lb's last week, I just wonder what's happened to him.

Didn't Kwon tweak something or have some sort of injury early on in the season, or was that another LB? If so, could be a lingering injury issue slowing him down a bit and affecting his game.

Not to ruin your hyperbole - I too want to see a Beck exit - but no one was crying weeks 1-4 this year. They looked damn good then. It wasn't until after a three touchdown win over Indiana that fans became upset.

OK, what's with the slow starts - on offense AND defense - two weeks in a row? It takes JT a quarter or more to get his passing stroke back. Last week the second half adjustments worked, this week not so much. So pre-game planning is not up to snuff?

I've been complaining from the first day you guys hired him, but I'm coming from the gift of hindsight, FWIW...

I was merely talking about him saying that the team has sucked since game 2 of last season, which clearly hasn't been the case.
Suck is relative, having to rely on QB run to have some semblance of a functioning offense vs teams with a pulse and some without could constitute suck to some.

Thanks for posting this. I know Weber put up good stats to start but it was apparent to me he would struggle with better competition. Even though he has been touted as a power back, we have yet to see any true power to his game. He has been too easily tackled and rarely breaks any tackles. He seemed shifty and some what elusive in the beginning, I'm now think that was more to do with the competition than Weber himself. He has improved on the balance somewhat but there is alot to be desired in his game as a lead back for Ohio state.

At the end of the day this is on the play calling and coaching staff, Weber shouldn't have been getting so many touches yesterday, especially how he has been trending. Get the ball into Samuel's hands and stop over thinking it.
