Game Thread Ohio State at Penn State, 10/22/16, 8:00pm ET ABC/WatchESPN

I love the Bucks and I hope we somehow find a way in the playoffs but right now I want what's best for our future.

We will not beat Bama with our offense nor scum for that matter.

At this point I want to get to the off season and get our shit figured out on offense as painlessly as we can whether that means winning out or not

To me it doesn't matter anymore it's clear to me. Get a true coordinator and retool.

This we agree on. Get a real QB coach and WR coach while we're at it. WRs have looked good exactly one year since Zach Smith has been here.

Honestly, don't think it matters. If we win out we'll end up where we deserve. If.

If.

Did i mention, if we win out? All is not lost and I take some comfort in recognizing how bad we looked against VaTech as it relates to our chances this year. Who cares if we drop to #24, win out and we're right back in CFP. I have some serious doubts that we can win out. This offense just isn't scaring teams despite all this 4 and 5* talent everywhere. But Urban has rebounded from bad losses a few times and most of the national champions have had 1 loss over the last decade. All goals are still ahead of us, IF we take care of business.

Thanks for the perspective. You're right. I guess it's better to find out what it feels like now and not have unrealistic expectations than run the table and lose to TTUN. I'm not sure how I feel about this team even facing a Bama or Louisville. I am bummed because I live in Tampa and the chances of having my team down here come January are suddenly much slimmer.

Sometimes the best thing to happen to you, is to get knocked down.
Urban Meyer has 3 NCs to his credit.

He had one loss in each of his NC seasons:

2006: lost to 11-2 Auburn in week 7 by 10 points
2008: lost to 9-4 Ole Miss in week 4 by 1 point
2014: lost to 7-6 Virginia Tech in week 2 by 14 points

Now in 2016 we've got a 3-point loss in week 7 to a PSU team that will probably finish the regular season 9-3 or 10-2.

An NC is still possible, but man this team really needs to rebound quickly. Still have a lot of tough games left, and Michigan looks unstoppable right now.

No. This PSU team was garbage. GARBAGE. GARBAGE. GARBAGE. GARBAGE.

this is the worst team I can recall losing to.

Didn't seem to bother Boeckman in 07, or Braxton in 13 when he won it by himself. Do any of you realize who we just lost to?

September 6, 2014 we lost by TWO touchdowns to Virginia Tech in Columbus. That loss was a complete embarrassment and even though VT was 2-0 at that point, that VT team didn't belong on the field with us and that team was garbage, garbage, garbage, garbage. And that VT loss, if you recall was the gift that kept on giving as VT went 7-6 that year. All the know-it-all talking heads on all the sports talk shows just absolutely knew we were going to get embarrassed by Alabama on national t.v. because we didn't belong on the same field with the likes of Alabama, etc. but we all know how that turned out.

November 7, 1998 we lost (again at home) to a shitty MSU team that was 4-4 and ended up 6-6 and they were garbage. I have never been so bitterly disappointed in a loss in all my life, we had no business losing that game, that day with that team. That particular OSU team, honestly, was my favorite OSU team (up to that year) to watch and I still think was one of the very best OSU teams to ever take the field. That team was, Jesus, that team was amazing and so God almighty talented, honestly they were spectacular.

I'm not saying any of this to single you out. I've been watching the Buckeyes since Woody Hayes coached (I know I'm an old phuck, who cares?) but no my point is simply that if you lose a game early, there's still hope and if you have Urban Frank Meyer as your head coach you have even more hope. Not to be Suzy Sunshine blowing sun rays up everyone's ass but I do have faith in Urban, if anyone can right this ship, that man can.

Jesus Christ. I'm going to eat this one for the next 10 years.

Fuck me. I've got 9 people texting me already. We win 4 in a row and that doesn't matter to these pieces of [Mark May]. It I don't fuckng kill myself we'll go through this same fucking process in 4 years.

Hire a god damn OC who isn't named Beck, Urban. Jesus god damn Christ. How many red flags do you fuckng need.

Ketchup might help. I personally prefer Hunt's Natural--no corn syrup. But, to each his/her own.

That VT team had a defense to at least make it understandable. This team had no excuse of a gimmick defense or a team that could play man

This PSU team was out manned in every way possible. Was down 21 to 7 in the 4th and somehow beat our boys.

How we went from playing with nothing to lose to playing to not lose everything is beyond me

Where are the counters and traps from the Championship run? Where's the tempo? Where's any sense of rhythm to the play calling, plays that work together in a sequence?

This, to me, is squarely on the coaching staff. It also is another data point in a trend line, IMO, and not a good one. Why is JT taking so much time almost every snap changing plays and pointing things out individually to each and every lineman? That was driving me absolutely insane. I get that crowd noise sometimes requires taking a little longer to get everyone set and on the same page, but you have to know your environment and how to work within it to your advantage.

This is driving me nuts. The last several defenses have played us with an odd front to stop inside zone, and edge pressure to limit outside runs. It's not exactly profound, VT did the same thing. Power and counter should kill that, along with the outside zone that Samuel scored on, but we have barely called them this or last season despite getting the same thing week in and out. Herman kind of had a pass for va tech since it was a new look back then, and the play calling evolved considerably afterwards to adjust to the new scheme. By now this should be business as usual.

The beauty of being an Ohio State fan. You can win a bazillion games in a row, championships, have massive road win streaks...lose one game and the haters are on you like flies on shit.

That's the nature of the beast.

Win out, and we're okay I think. I'm not sure I believed this was a playoff team coming into the year and they surprised me with their early success. Look to be slowing down now. May need to grind out the second half of this season, see if they can get to UM with just this loss, and then see if they can tackle the Scummers. If so, anything can happen. But truth be told that would make it a successful season for me considering the youth of the squad.
