Game Thread Ohio State @ Iowa, 11/04/17 @ 3:30 (ESPN)

Apples to oranges. To address lv's post properly, you should be looking at the 2017 NFL Draft, not the 2016 Draft.
Uh, no. He was saying that Tressel went 8-4 in 2004 because they lost 14 players to the 2004 draft, which occurred before the 2004 season. The equivalent draft for Meyer was the 2016 (12 drafted), which occurred before the 2016 season.

Clarett didn't even play in 2003 but we still went 11-2 (and won Fiesta Bowl against Kansas State), so the lack of Clarett had absolute [Mark May] to do with 2004.

As long as Clarett's name has come up, he only played nine complete games in 2002, and we won the NC anyway. Mike Jenkins, Chris Gamble, Craig Krenzel, Ben Hartsock, Mike Doss, etc. etc. etc. contributed more than a little bit though, as I remember.

Has anyone seen anything on why Weber was returning kickoffs? I like the way he runs the ball and all, but he doesn't exactly bring to the table what you want in a kickoff returner.

Just a guess but I'd bet it's two-fold:

1. UFM probably didn't want KJ Hill taking extra shots as a kick returner.

2. Weber likely returned kicks in High School at some point, so he probably looks decent doing so.

A junior MoC could have made a great difference in the NW game that year and probably against Purdue. You can't take away the best offensive player from an offense that features their best player with out a drop off.

It couldn't have hurt to have Mo though that's for sure.

Let's see how we finish though before this goes much deeper.

Would he have? He was having significant stinger problems with his shoulder. Who knows if he would've even made it through 2003, let alone been a "significant difference" in 2004. Besides, we went 11-2 in 2003 without Clarett at all. But, if you want to play the "If we had this player" game, if we had Zeke last year we don't lose at Rhythmic Slapping Valley, nor do we get shut out against Clemson, and probably would've won the B1G CCG.

The point is, Tressel lost a boat load of talent after the 2003 season and lost four games the next year, while Meyer lost arguably even more talent quality-wise after the 2015 season yet lost only two games the next year.

Woody's team would drive us crazy by beating scUM and going to the Rose Bowl and laying an egg. That happened too many times. All coaches have their faults. All teams have their faults.

Something is not quite right with this team and even last year with Fickel coaching the defense there was still the undisciplined play. Last years team was more talented though. Hmmm? Maybe it's just a talent drop-off that's the cause of this years team problems? Linebacker and secondary were better last year.
Defense was more talented last year.
Now the offense? Play calling and coaching I think are better this year but there is still much improvement to be made on offense.
Special teams have been a "problem" till this week. But got overshadowed by the poor effort on the road at Iowa.
Can this team get it's act together enough this late to win the rest of it's games?
MSU is a "must win" game. If we can win some how it will provide a moral boost to the team and coaches and could trigger a resurgence.
