Just running the ball every play in bad conditions i'm still taking 62-3 good guys

Agreed. Ohio State won in 2011 over Illinois going 1-for-4 passing. I think in a bad weather day, I'd be inclined to believe the old saying Woody had about passing the ball. Keep it simple. You've got two backs who could each single-handedly win this game - don't forget that. Plus, you've got a capable quarterback who can keep drives going with his legs. Add in a couple of jet-sweeps and I think we win this easily. (Of course, we should have beaten Iowa easily.) Maybe for fun, throw it deep out of bounds every now and then to keep the safeties aware that the deep pass is still an option. Illinois falls behind early and needs to throw more: lots of sacks for Ohio States, maybe some fumbles, or QB hurries where he makes bad decisions and throws some interceptions. I can see 63-3 being a possibility.

Yep. In the simplest language, "Run the damn ball!" Originally said 52-10, but I like yours better. 63-3 it is. :urban2:

The way I took it from the tiebreaker rules, divisional wins come first. Apparently it’s overall record that is taken into account first, though. I would think divisional wins/losses would hold more weight, but I guess not.

Who knows at this point. Best scenario:

Hope Whisky takes down TSUN and Bucks take care of business against Illinois.

I'm with you... part of me wants to see Wisky crumble tsun to the point that they stop playing in the third quarter. Part of me wants to see it be a slug fest that goes to the wire. Decisions, decisions...

Also, if we're up 5 scores and it's well into the 3rd quarter or later, please can we not leave JT out there? I feel he's been in much longer than needed in some games this season, always a risk with a mobile qb.

Dilemmas like that are a helluva lot of fun, aren't they! :slappy:

:oh:
Hard work pays off in the future, laziness pays off now.

Should I continue?
Sure....why not?! :slappy:

I know I can research this elsewhere but I'm deeply lazy: if we win this game we are automatically in the B1G title game, right?

Technically, I think we need scUM to lose at Wisky to clinch this weekend: if they were to win out, along with 3rd B1G losses by PSU and MSU, we would end up tied with them but lose the H2H tiebreaker.

OK, enough with the guess work on what would happen if we would beat Illinois and lose to scUM to finish in a four-way tie. Here are the division tiebreakers form the official B1G website:

The following procedure will determine the representative from each division in the event of a tie:

(a) If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.

(b) If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 8 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step (or sub-step), the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative. If three or more teams remain tied after any step, move to next step in tiebreaker with remaining tied teams.

1. The records of the three tied teams will be compared against each other.

2. The records of the three tied teams will be compared within their division.

3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5, 6, and 7).
(a) When arriving at a group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the collective tied teams as a group, rather than record against the individual teams.

4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.

5. The best cumulative conference winning percentage of non-divisional opponents.

(a) Example: East 1 non-divisional opponents are 20-7, East 2 non-divisional opponents are 19-8, East 3 non-divisional opponents are 14-13 – East 1 would be the representative.

6. The records of the three teams will be compared against the highest placed non-divisional teams in their division order of finish (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7).

(a) When arriving at a group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the collective tied teams as a group, rather than record against the individual teams.

(b) When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the record will prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e. 1-0 is better than 0-0, 2-0 is better than 1-0, etc.)
7. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative.

8. The representative will be chosen by random draw.

Step 1 eliminates PSU and scUM because they both are 1-2 against the other three of the four (PSU lost to both us and Sparty, while scUM lost to both PSU and Sparty), leaving us and Sparty with 2-1 records (Sparty losing to us and us losing to scUM). Since the second sentence of (a) above states, "If only two teams remain tied after any step (or sub-step), the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative", we would win because of our head-to-head win over Sparty.

So, a win over Illinois guarantees us the B1G CCG spot even if we finish in a four-way tie.
