Ohio State vs Michigan State, Mar 10, 2023, 2:30 PM EST, BTN

Ohio State to face Michigan State in Big Ten Tournament third round

Not many would have predicted it coming into the week, but the No. 13 seed Ohio State men's basketball team will play a game on Friday in the Big Ten Tournament. After having to hold on for dear life on Wednesday to defeat No. 12 seed Wisconsin 65-57, the Buckeyes managed to take care of business against No. 5 seed Iowa on Friday in a 73-69 win.

The Scarlet and Gray advance to the third round of the Big Ten Tournament and keep hopes of an improbable NCAA Tournament berth -- which will only happen if Ohio State wins all five games at the United Center -- alive. On Friday, the Buckeyes will face No. 4 seed Michigan State. The Spartans had a double bye, so this will be their first game in this year's Big Ten Tournament.

Ohio State and Michigan State will tip off at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET from the United Center in the third round of the Big Ten Tournament.

Prediction: MSU 71, Ohio State 64
Ohio State is finally rounding out into the team we expected them to be after a disappointing season. But this will be the third game in three days for the Buckeyes and I got to believe there will be some tired legs in the second half. Michigan State makes a few more shots than Ohio State in the final minutes to pick up the victory.

Michigan State to face Ohio State in Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals

The Spartans will begin their run at a conference tournament title on Friday afternoon...

With the benefit of a double-bye, Michigan State men's basketball has been able to sit back and enjoy watching the first two days of the 2023 Big Ten Tournament.

Now, the Spartans know who they will play in their first tournament game — Ohio State. After a first round win over 12-seed Wisconsin on Wednesday, the 13th-seeded Buckeyes defeated Iowa in the second round on Thursday, 73-69, to advance to the quarterfinal round where Michigan State awaits.

We're going to house Sparty tomorrow. Just a gut feeling, which is really science at this point. I do think this is it though. 3 games in 3 days is doable and they played well in that format early in the year and I really think they've got the arena down now and are starting to believe in themselves which is huge. A 4th game in 4 days though, against Purdue? Nah, and they'll probably be double digit underdogs in that if it comes also.

What preparation for Michigan State will be like after two losses to the Spartans in the regular season:

"They obviously got us really good at our place. We played really well at their place on senior night. They're a terrific team. It's as good a Michigan State team as the Final Four team. They shoot it as well as that team. They're different in their makeup, but I think it's as good as a Michigan State team as maybe we've played. I think they're terrific. So it will be a great challenge."

I think tomorrow might be our Waterloo but what I wouldn't give to see Izzo's face at the end of a loss, though. Please let it happen.

I also agree that even with a win, expecting to beat Purdue on day four is not realistic. OSU reaching the title game is fairy tale stuff.

But it's a fun dream so I am hanging on to it until it officially ends, and why the hell not? Maybe Rutgers shocks Purdue? Go Bucks!

Insert Lloyd Christmas meme.

I know there's no chance of it actually happening, but has anyone considered the fate of some poor "last one in" bastards that we'd knock out of the tournament. According to Lunardi, that would be either Nevada or Utah State. Mid major tears would flow like the salmon back to Capistrano.

I have most definitely considered that scenario and would love it of course, let's ruin some "last one in"'s dreams. And any Lloyd Chistmas reference hits home with me as well, so you're batting 100 in this post.

Considering an extra long lunch break for watching this one, though I seem to be horrible luck when I watch live. Kind of agree with all the above in the consensus that winning this game is likely the cap unless there are some other upsets...BUT, we don't give a damn for the whole state of *ichigan and that includes Sparty. Winning this game on its own would be satisfying and hell let's face it, we've been saying winning some games down the end of the stretch would be great for next year's team for confidence and hopefully some semblance of chemistry. We have likely exceeded that goal but I am greedy and want at least one more win. Obviously the original goal would have been much higher (at least a Tourney birth, winning record, etc.), but I am choosing positivity today.

That’s a bummer.

Chance for someone else (or group of someones) to step up.

Sparty definitely isn’t unbeatable. Couple good guards that can be pressured and no huge team speed or athletic advantage.

Gonna be a grind.

I wonder if this gets Holden out of the doghouse? Points have to come from somewhere.

What the heck. The entire B10 run has been over the top. No reason to expect otherwise today. The Fab Frosh/Four have young legs, and as Robbie Hummel stated that 'they are to young to be scared'. Add to that that Sueing is looking at the end of his basketball career, and there might be an impetus to dig a bit more deeply into the body's reserves. Yeah, MSU is 'tan, rested, and ready' to lace 'em up against tOSU. Izzo is the paramount coach in the B10, and he's warning his players not to get lazy. If I could find where to bet the game, I'd go all in. We lost by what, 22 the last time? By plenty certainly. Let's worry about the next team when this W is in the bag. Go Bucks!

Line has jumped from Sparty -4.5 to Sparty -6.5 since the Sensabaugh news broke. It'll probably be higher by game time.
