Game Thread Ohio State vs Penn State, 10/28/17 @ 3:30 ET (FOX)

PENN STATE QUOTEBOOK: URBAN MEYER DEFLECTS KICKOFF QUESTIONS, DEMETRIUS KNOX IMPRESSES AGAIN, SAM HUBBARD DISCUSSES DOUBLE TACKLE AND NITTANY LIONS PRAISE BUCKEYES

Numerous Penn State players, including Barkley and safety Marcus Allen, also took to Twitter after Saturday’s game to congratulate Barrett and Buckeye running backs J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber on a job well done.

Dobbins and Weber responded to those messages to give Barkley and Allen credit for the way they played in a hard-fought loss.

My apologies if it's already been discussed here but what was the reason for Parris Campbell's lack of playing time? The fumble or some lingering effects from his injury?

While I think we're all cheering for Campbell, his issues with the drops--and yesterday's huge fumble--probably have him on a short leash with Urban. Especially given the rise of the other WRs on the team.

^ Great to see that sportsmanship on both sides. Good people
Yeah I have a lot of respect for their players now after how they handled the loss.

Rewatched the game and a few observations...

1. Knox played fantastic all game. Blew his man up a ton and you could never tell he's a new starter. So impressed with him and so happy for him.

2. How about some love for Kendall Sheffield???? No TDs given up that I can recall and had the big stop on the near safety on a solo tackle on Barkley. So impressed with our secondary all game.

3. The swing passes and the quick screens worked more often then they didn't .. it's those routes that allows us to score that TD to both Baugh and Dixon.

4. Kevin Wilson is unreal. Just unconscious once he got a feel for our personnel. 530 yards on one of the best defenses in the nation. He ran JT a ton but mainly because they took away Dobbins once they found out how good he was.

5. This defense played well all things considered. Linebackers stayed home, the line was relentless and the secondary should've had two INTS.

6. great to see Sean hit two field goals. Without those we lose so he did his part all game.

7. We lost the turnover battle, got destroyed all game on STs, and had so many badly timed penalties. The fact that we won just goes to show how good we are on offense and defense.

His last 10 carries of the game went for a grand total of -10 yards. Fuck his 97 KO TD and his 36-yard TD run...the Heisman trophy winner doesn't go for -10 yards in his last 10 carries, and for -3 yards in all 14 second-half carries, of his team's biggest game of the year, and in fact possibly the biggest game in college football so far.

Barkley has always been a swing for the fences type of player - lots of home runs, lots of strike outs. Usually he is Aaron Judge. Last night he was more like Rob Deer - a couple of huge plays and a whole lot of mediocre-to-bad ones. For the final 2/3 of the game, his impact was generally negative for Penn State, and he literally got worse as the game went on. Not a Heisman-worthy performance at all.

Excellent point. Here's a copy/paste of Mili's list of Barkley's runs:

-1
-5
8
-4
-7
6
-3
-7
-2
5

7 of the 10 runs lost yards. Going off on a tangent here, rewind to the 2005 national championship game. Pete Carroll gets blasted for trying to convert a 4th down and short, and he didn't even have that season's Heisman winner on the field.

A Heisman winner is someone you know you can depend on to win you those tough yards. I don't care how much a defense sells out to stop you, you don't go for whatever -1 yards in a half against ANYBODY, let alone Northwestern. You don't lose yards on 70% of your runs when the team needs you to keep drives going. You don't come in fourth place in rushing yards in the game.

If this didn't kill his Heisman chances, then the award is a sham. (Of course, I believe it's a sham, anyway...)

Game Thoughts:
A classic
Barrett played the game of his life
OL played the game of their life
Receivers stepped big time
Give him 20-25 touches and Dobbins has 175-200 yards
Despite the score the D played really well
Worley, Baker and Booker all made huge plays
DBs played really well
DL is incredible
Hubs double tackle was a classic
We owned the 4th quarter on both sides of the ball

Every break/call seemed to go the Cults way
The blocked punt was the turning point in the game
Do you ever think Wilson will go to the TE to win the game? HA!
The refs really sucked this game. Just pitiful
The crowd rocked the house
Love Gus Johnson
Win out and we are in
