JONATHON COOPER AND AUSTIN MACK LISTED AS GAME-TIME DECISIONS, THAYER MUNFORD AND BARON BROWNING GOOD TO GO FOR OHIO STATE'S GAME AGAINST WISCONSIN

Ohio State will return a couple key contributors this weekend, but there's a chance it will be without two other starters.

Wide receiver Austin Mack, defensive end Jonathon Cooper and linebacker Teradja Mitchell are listed as game-time decisions for the Buckeyes' top-15 matchup with Wisconsin that will kick off at noon Saturday at Ohio Stadium.

Linebacker Baron Browning and left tackle Thayer Munford did not appear on this week's status report, which was released Friday morning, meaning they'll be available to play versus the Badgers. Browning missed last week's 52-3 win against Northwestern with an undisclosed injury. After being listed as a game-time decision last week, Munford did not start against the Wildcats, but he played 14 snaps in the second quarter.

The Buckeyes will be without offensive tackle Joshua Alabi, wide receiver C.J. Saunders, defensive end Tyler Friday, wide receiver Ellijah Gardiner, tight end Cormontae Hamilton and defensive end Noah Potter, who are all listed as unavailable, against the Badgers. Kamryn Babb, Taron Vincent and Ronnie Hickman remain out, too, as they continue their long-term recoveries from injuries.

Due to a newly implemented policy this year, Ohio State does not disclose why players are unavailable to play or when they will be able to return.

Cooper's designation as a game-time decision continues what has been an unfortunately timed injury-riddled senior season. After missing the first four games of the year with an ankle injury, he returned to play in the Buckeyes' last three games, and he had said he hoped the off week before last week's game against Northwestern would help him continue to heal.

I hate and don't understand the new 'we don't discuss injuries' policy. Austin Mack on the game time decision list with 0 context. Cool
Weigh the good vs the bad. The good......Joe Nobody gets to know if he's going to play football or not. The bad.....the public learns about personal health information that they have no business knowing or even wanting to know.

SKULL SESSION: WISCONSIN LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK, CRIS CARTER AND ORLANDO PACE DISCUSS SATURDAY'S GAME, AND J.K. DOBBINS AND TONY ALFORD SHARE A BOND

JUST TWO LEGENDS, CHATTING IT UP. Fox's First Thing's First gave us a little Wisconsin week treat as Buckeye legend Orlando Pace joined fellow Buckeye legend Cris Carter to break down Saturday's matchup with the Badgers.

You'll be shocked to hear this, but The Pancake Man is picking the Bucks.

Pace starts off strong with that "Absolutely not."

Joey Bosa first with the absolute confidence, and now Pace? It seems like something's got the former Buckeyes feeling a little frisky ahead of a big matchup. But maybe it's just because they're right and Ohio State is really damn good.

Of course, we also got to hear Pace's thoughts on Ohio State's newest gigantic son, Dawand Jones, who he says even dwarfs him.

IF ILLINOIS GAVE YOU PROBLEMS...
Wisconsin shouldn't be needing a bounce-back game this week in the biggest game of the season and the lone game in which it won't be a favorite, and it definitely shouldn't be the defense that needs to do the bouncing back.

And yet, here we are.

From Henry Palattella of the Columbus Dispatch:

The Badgers will try to regroup Saturday at Ohio State, whose offense is predicated on blowing games open with long plays. The Buckeyes are gaining 526.7 yards per game, fifth in the nation.

“They have weapons everywhere, and they spread you out,” Wisconsin linebacker Chris Orr said. “There’s a big misconception that people think that they’re always just trying to run out on the edge, but that’s really not the case. They still want to play big-boy football. You have to defend the whole field.”

Against Illinois, the Badgers allowed a 48-yard touchdown pass and three runs of 20 or more yards, with the biggest coming in the third quarter as Illini running back Reggie Corbin broke free for a 43-yard touchdown to cut the Badgers’ lead to 20-14.

...

“We need to get them out of their rhythm and make them feel uncomfortable so they have to do stuff they don’t want to do,” Baun said. “It comes down to winning our one-on-one matchups, whether that’s coming off the edge or in space and coverage.

Did you know that according to SP+, Illinois was the best offense Wisconsin has faced this season? And they lost. Makes you think.

I know Wisconsin's defense is good. It's probably still the best Ohio State will face this regular season. I don't love playing the "ain't played nobody!" card, because I think it's sometimes just an easy out, but the defensive numbers they've been putting up are fraudulent as hell given the competition.

Illinois moved the ball with relative ease late in that game against the top defense in the country. This is going to be Ohio State's biggest challenge of the year, but on some level, I think the words of Joey Bosa ring true:

"They just lost to Illinois. What the hell? That's not a game. That's my answer. I'm not worried."

I don't know. I get it in certain situations, if your quarterback is hurt and you want to make it hard for the opponent to game plan, ok. But I just think not discussing any injuries, what type of injury or how severe, as a firm policy, is a disservice to fans.

Joey Bosa (Ohio State, defensive end, 2013-15): They just lost to Illinois. What the hell? That's not a game. That's my answer. I'm not worried.

I don't have anything else to add.
Yea that's where I'm at...Illinois is not a good football team at all. I know some will point out our loses but Iowa/Purdue had at least 1 solid unit each. Illinois just isn't good all the way around. That has to tell us something I think.

Sports betting is widely legal now. You have to have injury transparency to keep a sport on the up and up.

Add the players privacy rights to the list of things the NCAA hasn't planned for as the world changed around it.

I was thinking more along the lines of....these kids are people and their personal health history doesn't need to be shared to the public just because they can run fast and we idolize them.

Haha+1

I never Gamble with money I don't intend to lose. As soon as the bet is made I assume I have lost.

That's why they call it gambling. Officials, stupid penalties, even dumber playcalls, and miscellaneous factors can cost you.

Crying about injury reports is ridiculous. It's the players rights not to have his health discussed into detail. Boohoo...don't Gamble then.
