How can it be post secondary. He still has to take one high school class and I don't think he is driving from cleveland to tOSU everyday.
pseop, he may be using college courses to fill his graduation requirements for hs. thus, their is a possiblity st eds could be paying for his tution, but not room and board the reason football may be in question. this may be intresting, time will tell, im sure more info will flow in as the day goes on. pseop is very common at osu with columbus area hs students, especially the more affluent ones, often times colmbus state will even send profesors to the hs.

imo we will know more by tom morning, wait till then to make rash crazy judgments and dont send any hate-mail to st eds till then

Will he or won't he?
By Gary Housteau
Date: Dec 6, 2004

Alex Boone will be in Columbus during spring drills at Ohio State but does that mean that he'll be on the football roster at that time or not? Gary Housteau tried to find out what the game plan looks like after the Boone family met with the adminstration at St. Edward today.

Reportedly a final decision on whether Alex Boone would be enrolling early at Ohio State was to be determined at a meeting with the Boone family and the principal’s office at St. Edward High School this morning.
Out of respect for the process and all the parties involved, neither the school nor the Boone family would comment publicly about what transpired earlier today.

However, Bucknuts media was able to put together details that paint a fairly clear picture about what is likely to transpire in regards to Boone’s future relationship with St. Edward and with Ohio State.

Because it would be a precedent that the administrators of St. Edward would obviously prefer not to establish, and because it is something that they feel would not ultimately be in the best interest of St. Edward, it looks as if Boone will be able to enroll at Ohio State for the spring quarter but he will not be a participant in spring football or the spring game.

At St. Edward, they have 5 terms instead of 4 quarters in an academic year. Boone will complete his fourth term three weeks after the 5th term begins, but that’s not the hang up. It’s already been determined that Boone will have all the academic requirements met in time and he will be able to enroll at Ohio State in time for the spring quarter. And he will do that.

But this is where the picture begins to get somewhat blurry. And it’s a secular problem that is primarily behind the dilemma and not anything to do with any religious requirements

In order to graduate at St. Edward you need to complete your 5th term senior project, similar to a thesis paper or internship report. Therefore, in a nutshell, Boone’s senior project will have something to do with working under the football department at Ohio State of which he will immerse himself him in this spring but will not be a participant in.

In the mean time, Boone’s best interest academically will be sated as he will begin his education at Ohio State in the spring quarter with the thoughts of obtaining his bachelors degree in 3 ½ years and his masters, if he’s still at OSU, in five years. That is the well-thought-out educational road map that has already been developed for Boone at Ohio State.

When Boone eventually becomes a complete student-athlete at Ohio State and a member of the football team in the summer, it is likely that the Buckeye fans will see him donning the number 61. Although 75 has become available with the graduation of Simon Fraser, Boone has asked to wear 61 in the honor of Jamie McManamon, a former St. Edward student and teammate of Boone, who was killed in a car accident this past spring. McManamon, a student-athlete at Cornell, was driving home in May for a First Communion party when his car veered off the road and flipped over. McManamon died of a severe head injury.

The door for Boone to participate in the spring is still open ajar but for now it seems that an amicable and mutually respected agreement has been reached that sincerely considered the best interests of St. Edward, The Ohio State University and Boone himself.

And if you’d like to contribute to the Jamie McManamon Scholarship Fund in his memory, you can send a donation in c/o Smith-Barney, 2035 Crocker Rd., Suite 201, West Lake, Ohio 44145

its a shame he wont be able to play spring ball, but he will at least be able to get acclimated to college life early and start training with the team after spring ball. that is at least a partial bonus.

I am assuming he can still watch practices and at least have a copy of the playbook to at least mentally practice.

So, Housteau's "fairly clear picture" is that Boone will be enrolled at OSU while technically still in high school. In that turns out to be the case, how about if Boone submits his 5th term senior project prior to the 5th term?

So his Senior Project has to do with going to tOSU and learning about the football team? That's not a shabby senior project if you ask me. So he is enrolling early, and this will complete his requirements. If he can practice with the team and just be around the team that early, then I think it will help him out a lot. I'm really excited about Boone!

Yes here is what Kyle posted on bn:

"Thumbs up for Ohio State on Boone enrolling early. Boone will enroll in January, but they have not 100 percent decided if he will participate in spring practice (it will be the principal's decision). He should know that within the next week, but that also looks promising.

But Alex Boone WILL be enrolled at OHio State in January and *may* be participating in Spring practice."

wow, way to get the story correct. geez...

Scout.com's #1 Midwest Prospect
By Chris Pool Midwest Recruiting Analyst
Date: Dec 8, 2004

Alex Boone, the #1 prospect, in the Midwest, according to Scout.com, is verbally committed to Ohio State. Boone talks about his Buckeye official visit and which players from Cleveland (Glenville) impressed him the most during St. Ed’s last game of the 2004 season.

“My Ohio State visit went great,” Alex Boone said. “I went to Columbus last Friday for my official visit and I had a blast. It was beautiful. My commitment is solid.”

The 6-foot-8, 300-pounder from Lakewood (Ohio) St. Ed’s could have an immediate impact at Ohio State.

St. Ed’s season was ended by Cleveland (Glenville) in the 2nd round of play-off action.

“Jamario (O’Neal) is so smooth and so tough,” Boone said. “It doesn’t even look like he’s trying but he’s flying all over the field.

“Freddie Lennix really impressed me a lot as well. He’s a hitter and he’s quick. I’d look over and see Freddie before the ball was snapped and when the play started, he was gone. He’s (Lenix) just lighting quick.”

Boone graded out over 90% in 2004 and he had 50 knock-downs. Alex said that Oklahoma and Notre Dame finished 2nd and 3rd for his services.

Boone should have won Mr. Football in Ohio this year.

There's no way a small-school running back should beat out this kid for that honor -- especially in a state that prides itself on outstanding O-line play. In twenty years Alex will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and folks will be asking themselves, "What ever happened to Tyrell Sutton?"

No offense at all intended to Tyrell. He had a terrific high school career and I wish him well at Northwestern. But Alex Boone is a once-in-a-generation talent. He will go down in Buckeye history.

MegaWoody; you're probably right that Boone was the best football player in the state this year. However, when it comes to Mr Football, no lineman will ever win it. It's just the Heisman, only skill positions (no offense to the O-linemen - that takes skill too) will get serious consideration.

Sorry but I'm gonna have to disagree with you guys on the Sutton claim. I think Tyrell deserved to get the award hands down. You look at his stats and there's really no way to not give him the award. He had 3200+ yards rushing this year, including games where he put up 500 on Ursuline and 400 on Harding. I really think Tyrell was the best player in the state this year.

In twenty years Alex will be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame ...

Uh, I'd put some serious vCash on that. First, he has his college years to play yet before he even gets considered for the pros. Second, even if he does make the pros, he'll have to have a Hall-of-Fame type career (usually at least 10 years in the pros). Third, he'll have to wait five years or so before even being eligible for induction, and then only if he gets selected on the very first ballot (which is extremely rare) would he make it by 2024. Folks were talking about Mike D'Andrea in such glowing terms in late 2001 and look how it's turned out for him. Granted, Boone could easily become an all-time Buckeye great, but let's not get carried away and say he'll be enshrined in Canton in 2004.

St. Edward Principal Eugene Boyer was direct Tuesday when asked to respond to various Web site reports and rumors that have Eagles All-Ohio senior offensive tackle Alex Boone pursuing an early graduation.

"Students do not graduate early from St. Edward," Boyer said. "We have never done that at St. Edward, not in 55 years."

One report said Boone met with the principal to discuss the possibility of an early graduation and the possibility of participating in spring football practice with Ohio State.

Ohio's co-Offensive Player of the Year in Division I, Boone gave Ohio State a verbal commitment in the summer of 2003 and is expected to sign with the Buckeyes in February during the signing period.
